HIGHLY TECHNICAL SOFT SHELL MOUNTAIN JACKET

Trail Magazine 2010 softshell award: BEST IN TEST

The real hero is the fabric. Polartec Powershield is a truly exceptional fabric. 90% of the time that you are outside this Powershield is probably the most comfortable and effective outerwear for the majority of mountain activities. Blocking 98% of the wind, highly breathable, water repellant and extremely abrasion resistant the Sabretooth has phenomonal potential. The advantages of a softshell are obvious, stretch for active comfort, less noise than a hard shell, warmth without weight and weather protective. Featuring the classic alpine features, adjustable hood, venting pockets and active tailored fit, the Sabretooth is the outerwear that gets worn, not carried.

Main Body Fabric: Polartec® Power Shield®

Colours: Black/Alpine Red Zips

Weight: 520g/18oz Size Medium

RRP: £150

Trail BEST IN TEST verdict: " An excellent softshell for wearing in typically mixed mountain weather."

(£120 + £2) 1st Class delivery = £122

Some will say £120 for a jacket is ridiculous. Trust me, it is worth it. Waterproof, Wind resistant & breathable. Keeps you very warm.
Also, Pete Bland Sports have excellent service.

Some will say £120 for a jacket is ridiculous if it doesn't have TNF … Some will say £120 for a jacket is ridiculous if it doesn't have TNF written on it

Fixed that for you. ;-)

Seems a good price, although I can see a few places stocking it around 125-130.

Thanks!

Montane > The North Face

I quite agree.

But my experience is that anything 'specialist' or outside the awareness of the general public will be slated on here by people who know nothing beyond big brands.

(For the record I'm sat here in a Mountain Hardware softshell which I think is brilliant)

Mountain Hardware are also excellent.

imho, The North Face do make 'some' good products, but most of their stuff is overpriced standard apparel. Whenever people see a North Face jacket reduced from £300 to £70, they think it is the bargain of the century, whereas in fact it isn't.

To all readers out their, Montane, Mountain Hardware, Haglofs, Arc'teryx >>>> North Face

I think the reason why people have taken issue with this deal is that we're all used to seeing inflated rrps followed by massive "sale reductions" which make average products seem more appealing. Mike Ashley has managed to flog a lot of low end TNF gear through the high street.

Montane is a UK company that makes good quality high end performance clothing. Montane aren't actively targeting the Millets or Blacks demographic and as such they don't adopt the same pricing strategy. If you go into an independent climbing or mountaineering shop you will see Montane!

I agree with blahblah Montane clothing pound for pound is a lot better than the TNF stuff that Mike Ashley's shops have been peddling.

The jacket looks a lot like the Marmot/ Mammut top end design stuff from '09
