The Flying Circus is where Monty Python started - 4 series of TV shows aired between 1969 and 1974 in the UK. Dubbed "The Fathers of Modern British Comedy", it was seen as the start of a new generation of TV comedy when it hit the mainstream and was certainly seen as controversial in its day. Topical issues were included but silliness was the main theme, and seeing the "everyday" portrayed at a tangent was the order of the day. The team's (Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin) classical education also is reflected in some of the more esoteric pieces. Now with a huge cult following, the Flying Circus appeals to both young and not-so-young.

The American version is 14 discs, does this mean that this is really compressed?

I will probably get this!

Well it's 13 episodes for seasons 1 -3, and 6 episodes for season 4. So 45 x 30 minute episodes = 1350 minutes. Divide that by 8 for 169 minutes per disc (average). Assuming they're dvd9's that should be perfectly acceptable quality.
