More of a heads up: As of January 26th redeem £2.50 clubcard points for 1000 Avios Miles

Found 1st Jan 2011
As of January 26th you can get 400 bonus miles on top of the 600 you usually receive for £2.50 clubcard points.

I know lots of people on here don't like the airmiles scheme so please don't vote cold just for that!

Anyway I hope it helps someone.

Thanks for the edit 8-)

slightly confused (actually very confused)

what is the deal?

do we buy 1000 avios for £2.50 worth of vouchers? or do we swap 1000 avios for £2.50 worth of vouchers?

thanks

and where does the Merlin pass come into it?

As I recall it's the 26th Jan this kicks off :

*February bonus Avios offerThe February bonus Avios offer is open to all … *February bonus Avios offerThe February bonus Avios offer is open to all Tesco Clubcard holders and is valid when you exchange Clubcard vouchers for Avios between 26/01/12 and 31/03/12. Bonus Avios will be awarded in a separate transaction within 28 days of standard Avios being awarded. Standard Avios take up to 28 days to be awarded.400 bonus Avios will be awarded for every whole 250 Clubcard points or £2.50 Clubcard voucher exchanged.

Is there sarcasm there ?
A Merlin annual pass is ONLY £42.50 of Clubcard vouchers sticking entirely within Tesco Clubcard!
tesco.com/clu…393

You have to LAUGH - or is it CRY - at how Avios manage to make everything as clear as mud - eg running a special "FEBRUARY" offer that the small print says runs from 26/1 to 31/3. It seems unfortunately to be a part of their entire mentality to make it all as complex/confused as they can.

So does this mean I can fly to Paris for £22.50? (9,000 Avios gets you there)

£22.50 in Clubcard points + either :
Taxes & charges
or
£27 (reward saver)

Return flights costing 20,000 Avios or less are inclusive of taxes, fees and charges, but are subject to a flat £27 payment, if you’re a ‘regular collector’ (ie. you’ve collected at least one Avios in the last 12 months). Anyone who hasn’t collected an Avios in the last 12 months will have to pay taxes, fees and charges.

So paris for £50 not so bad?

whats the whole point ? i enquired about a flight to india and it cost me 50000 avios points as well as just above £ 300 for taxes and charges .. at the same time i can get emirates flight just for £ 419.00 at the moment ... i would rather spend the clubcard points at 4x somewhere else(glodsmiths, pizza express or somewhere)

Paris is not as good value as it used to be (equivalent of 7,500 avios & no cash)....but still not too bad if you qualify for reward saver. Some destinations are now a better deal (eg Berlin)....very useful chart here : bestflightsales.com/fre…le/

For anything outside Europe it's now much more expensive due to taxes/charges (reward saver not available for these).

Bonus Avios in February

We're topping up your Avios all February 2012 – giving you hundreds of extra Avios free when you exchange*

Exchange your Clubcard vouchers for Avios during February 2012
For every £2.50 in Clubcard vouchers, get 400 bonus Avios
That's on top of the standard 600 Avios you usually collect
And you can do it as many times as you like.

This could be a shock, but the scheme isn't tailored to you...

I personally redeemed most of my Avios on Qantas domestic flights in Australia - where there aren't many taxes etc. so only paid around £5-10 on top of the Avios.

Many people also use them to pay for upgrades into business class where I don't believe you have to pay any additional taxes - but even if you do, the cash saving is enormous.

And finally, there are several BA/partner routes where competition isn't that good, and many more routes where if you wanted a quick get away on a specific date, the price would be a lot higher than normal yet Avios can be used to pay for the bulk of it.

If you live in Aberdeen the Avios deals seem better as we are now included in Europe! We used to have to use more miles to get to Paris but now just the same as everyone in Uk

Agreed.

It depends where your flying from - Regional Airports score with the new system..

I'm in Aberdeen and the only place I could really get for a reasonable amount of airmiles was within the UK (750 airmiles). I could add another 500 Airmiles & that would then get me as far as Paris (so 1250 Airmiles).

With the new system however I can now get (& have booked) flights from Aberdeen to Nice for 9000 "Avios" (the equivelant of 900 Airmiles) plus £27.

So I've got flights from Aberdeen to Nice (via London) for myself, the wifie & 2 kids for 3600 Avios + £108.

Getting anywhere in Europe aint cheap from sunny Aberdeen so for me its a good deal.
