Award winning plonk (apparently) for a tenner, seems a decent deal in time for Christmas.

I'm firmly of the opinion it's all a load of nonsense anyway and a blind taste test would sort out any wine snob out there (as evidenced by that brilliant episode of Come Dine With Me from Sheffield where one of the contestants rather brilliantly decanted Asda's wine box wine into empty posh wine bottles donated by his friends. The resident wine snob GP couldn't contain her excitement all night at the impressive wine being served up until the host told her what he'd done. absolutely priceless).

You have to bear in mind that there are only two types of wine in the world: wine that you like and wine that you don't like. For the latter, it doesn't matter how expensive it is, how many awards it has won or which words are written on the label, it is still 'wine you don't like'.
Most people (me included) couldn't tell the difference between cava, prosecco and champagne. Dare I say you're probably better off with a decent bottle of cava than a cheap bottle of champagne; taste and price wise?

Picked up 2 bottles of the ALDI Champagne this morning. You can’t go wrong with it. Far superior to some other over priced labels....

What award may this be?

Courtesy from a newspaper article

“The fizz has been exclusively made for Morrisons and picked up a silver medal award at this year’s International Wine Challenge.“
Is this better than the Aldi Champagne Veuve Monsigny Champagne Brut, which is priced £11.49 but named one of the best and is an award winner.

Thanks, picked up a bottle at my local, they didn’t have many left but probably have more out the back.
Nice £9 with an amex

Remember when Heston put blue nun through a soda stream versus a top vintage champagne . 50 per cent of the city traders who tried them thought the blue nun was the vintage!

Precisely, a multi billion quid business based on snobbery/perception (oohh, this is expensive it must be good)..

I'd say no but then I am a huge huge fan of Aldi's Monsigny, we have all sorts of champagne at Christmas and I've never met anyone who moans when theres bolly, veuve, tat and this on the go.

Yip....I've spent more in Morrisons in the last 2 weeks on my 10% cashback Amex than I've spent there in the whole of this year !!!

or a can of special brew job done
Love how this is super hot and the £10 tesco champagne has gone negative.
I still think you are better off spending £10 on a brut Cava. It will be nicer. Just not 'champagne' . But if its that that's important and not the taste then go for it
Cava is generally nasty. But a good Cremant (like Cremant du Jura at Aldi) is a way better bet. They are about £8.

Cheap Cava, yes it can be not very nice but like Champagne there are good ones and bad ones. Cava generally has a bad image because people buy the cheap supermarket bottles at around £5

What I meant was, choose a £10 vintage Cava and it will be nice than than this. a £4 bottle won't
Probably. But, just like Goldilocks, I find Cava too dry and prosecco too sweet but Cremant is just right!
36597754-QAPxU.jpgThis is the only chopin I drink
Prefer Asti Spumante myself but this is a good price.
I usually buy the Lovell Fontaine at £12 from Asda but seen the Andre Carpentier for £10 in Tesco so bought a case. Will have to buy a bottle or two of this to see how good it is. Aldi's Monsigny is also quite good at £10.99. As a previous poster stated there is wine you like and wine you don't. That applies to most things.

Really don't know as wouldn't buy it at £18. The Lovell Fontaine in Asda at £12 is very good but it is all down to personal taste.
Will try the aldi one thanks.
Well I like this champagne. .... and I like this champagne..... but I don't like these tight pants!
Aldi on promo for £9.99
I believe at £5 a bottle contents worth < £1 @ £10 it's about £4 & @£25 it's about £8, but as others have said drink more what you like, and please no one tell me they like charmer it tastes like cat pee ( so I'm told, but I've never tasted cat pee)
Be hot if they had any in store. I checked Christmas Eve and nothing staff knew nothing about it.
36647031-bPwgk.jpgCertainly beats other wine's.

Tried a lot to find it all over the net, including All4 but no joy. It is a few years old now. If you happen to find it please post a link and I will do the same if I find it. It really is absolutely hilarious to see the wine snob GP's bubble well and truly burst

PS If you do find the whole weeks' episode just a head's up, it' the Friday episode.

PPS This is the GP in question, Broadcast 10/12/10 but can't find anywhere it's available to watch.
