We'll I can understand where it is all comming from but let's face it, half of us eat meat. The facilities are not as bad as in farms in other European countries where most of the meat is comming from. If you look at label in tesco meat is from Poland, Holand. Facilities in farms in Poland are nowhere near English standards, but the cheapest price I've seen there is £3 a kg. Over there the price of 1kg pork in supermarket is 1.29 euro. It's sad how the animals are treated, but We are still going to eat it. If yo take religion for example. Muslims they pray and kill. I'll say that's cruelty. Think of it, you pray to kill someone and once you prayed the food is clean. Plus you are innocent.
Piglets do fight with each other quite often and they do kill. Farmers sometime don't just have time to clean the cage if the animal died. So I don't think it's that bad. As if it was, the pork would have been taken off the shelves and it was all over the TV.
I might be wrong but that is my opinion.

remember that face next time you open a garlic sausage bought for 59p
I`m a total meat lover and even more pet lover ( 2 lovely spaniels ) but I can not see today why there is any reason at all to make any animal suffer in life or death, please remember pigs have a higher IQ than most family dogs, so we should put them peacefully to sleep before slaughter, just the same for sheep, cows and even chickens.

You simply can't put them to sleep as the medicine will stay in their system and it will harm human. There is a way to kill animal so it can be eaten. You even can't eat the pig, sheep, etc if the animal died naturally.
Been to Poland last month there was pork on offer in tesco for €1.30 kg, chicken wings there are €0.90. Chicken legs €1.10. Talking about lamb it is a bit more expensive and tastes bad.
I must say looking at the chicken knuckles from Tesco chicken, I know that these poor creatures have been kneeling on their own excrement before they are killed. My heart sinks and I often wonder if I could keep my own chicken. At least, they are free to roam and no growth hormones will be used. Imagine what our children are eating day in day out. These animals are so intensely farmed, never see daylight and sit down their own excrement, pumped up in hormones...
This offer is brilliant. Last time it was on (2 months ago?) I bought loads. They freeze well and when cooked are delicious. Just cook them long and slow in a crockpot (after removing the skin and most of the fat) with your favourite veg, herbs, spices, marinades, cider etc. There's lots of free recipes on the internet if you search for them.
Their pork shanks were on offer as well last week at my local Morrisons store for £1 each. Again, slow-cooked to perfection and fed 2 adults each shank

You may be pleased to hear that no growth hormones, steroids etc are used in the EU.
Will be getting some t
Good deal, & a lot of sense from rostislavmalickis.
It's the same with Horses when they are shot the hunt knacker van is called, however if its been an emergency vet call out & the horse has died having drugs pumped into it, it is not suitable for the hounds.

(& please, this is just life, past & present within the sport, no nasty comments please, the carcass is utilised as it should be if a clean death rather than wasted).
Just to update, this was INstore @ the Cardea store last night on the edge of Peterborough. (frozen, mid aisle freezer)
