I think it was a Food Unwrapped, or a similar program, where they did a test on which fat makes the best / crispiest roasties. Vegetable oil (/rapeseed oil) actually came out as the winner.

Probably wouldn't last long on a cross-channel swim, though, if that's what everyone's buying these for...

That does seem weird. Interesting fact, though! You'd have thought there'd be issues with it going rancid over time - perhaps it did, but I guess this must have been used for machinery in the times before synthetic oils, perhaps.

Use by is: December 2017. Get a couple in the cupboards for next Christmas.

The looks the same as the Tesco finest one which is 2 for £3! I'm off to Morrisons

Cant beat Lard, best roasties period.
