MOT for £26 at Mr Clutch

Found 13th Sep 2011
Seeing the Halfords MOT offer get severly frozen earlier, I thought I would have a go
It differs from store to store, but the Swindon Mr Clutch are currently charging £26 for a MOT.
Use the link attached to find your local one and see how much discount you can get. You MUST print the voucher and take it with you when paying.
I have been getting my car MOT'd for the last 4 years at Mr Clutch.
I have never had an issue with them finding any fault of which I was not aware, or charging me for anything 'extra'.
The only fail I have had was a dodgy light bulb (which I knew when submitting), for which they supplied and fitted a replacement bulb for £7 (this is a £35 ford dealer job as the bulb fitting is obscured by the car battery).

Heard bad things about Mr Clutch. Cheap MOT deals are normally never cheap when they try to fail your car on things that don't really need doing.
friend had a clutch fitted a few years ago and they left half the screws out

Thats why I don't go to Kwik-Fit

Had my brakes checked there for free and they said I needed a new sensor cost £105 went to my usual garage £23.00 each ...
I had no problems with Milton Keynes branch, done 3 MOT's for my car there for £21.
They sent a reminder letter each year keeping the same price. Service was fast and you don't need to do any repairs work with them. Luckily I didn't need any anyway.
I agree with the majority. You'll probably end up being slapped with an unneccesary bill when going to chains like these. Better to take it to a good, honest independant garage - even if its paying the MOT RRP.

I've been going there 4 years in a row just paid for half price MOTs and a light bulb so far.

That's why I tried Mr Clutch, kept getting charged for a bunch of things (bad brake fluid, new pads, oil change I didn't ask for) plus ove £50 for an MOT. Funny I haven't changed my driving style but now it just costs me £26 per year for the MOT.
I have been taking my 25 year old VW campervan and my BMW series one to Halfords for the half price MOTS and have had no fails in 3 years. In fact that's not true, they've failed the BMW last week for a jammed bonnet catch - but fixed it for free and issued a pass. They also failed the Campervan for headlights (beam out) - but then fitted their own deflectors FOC. Oh - and failed it the year before for the windscreen jets not working, but let me take it away and bring it back FOC.
Great service - and cheaper than an Independant.
In my experience a half price MOT means double the faults found.

So, that's agreed then?
When they did my clutch years ago they left all but one bolt out! Found them sitting on the air filter!
I'd never take my car to any of these places they're simply rip off merchants. I always take mine to my local garage which is in the 'good garage scheme'. They do an excellent job for a reasonable fee never had a problem with any work they've done or the price charged! I will always go back to them. Mr Clutch, National Tyres & Kwik Fit are all robbing bassas!
Quick tip for M.O.T's. Check your local councils website as many have transport sections which public transport vehicles such as taxi's etc have to use for their M.O.T's. These are often open to the public to use. You won't get a "half price" M.O.T but nor will your car fail on anything that it did not deserve to - they will not do any repairs themselves and don't have a vested interest in finding/exaggerating or dare I say it.. creating failures. If your car does fail then shop around for the best price for the repairs.. generally the M.O.T retest is free within 10 working days
p.s never used Mr Clutch, can't comment on them personally!
Judging by all the comments about dodgy clutch work, maybe 'Mr Clutch' is pronounced 'missed a clutch' for a reason?
I have had no faults with them

The Good Garage Scheme in itself is a bit of a rip off. It is run by Forte and garages get to use the signs etc if they use their additives. That's not to say garages who are part of the scheme are bad, just that the scheme is.
