Await to feel the freeze.
Decent price. ATS not known for 'finding' MOT problems. Even if they did & it seemed a bit exaggerated, you can just get the problem fixed at your local place then take back for a free re-test

I've had my MOT done at my local ATS the last two years, both with Groupon vouchers and not had any trouble. I also managed to get money off the Groupon deal using discount codes. I think I paid £16 in the end.
Rather pay £50 and have it done by the council

Can't see why this offers any advantages over an MOT garage you can trust - it's just more expensive.

My local MOT guys - with whom I have an excellent relationship, ie they do me very special 'mates rates' prices on oil & filter changes, other maintenance such as replace alternator etc - won't ever compromise on MOT testing just because they know me. New tyres means new tyres, less than 100% brakes means sort it out etc.

I'd rather have that relationship, built up over nearly 15 years now, friendly faces I can trust. Plus cheaper.
Been using ATS for the past 5-6 years after years of using local council stations. ATS is far cheaper and are genuine in their appraisal. You also have the choice of either using them or anyone of your choice to do the works (if there are any) and then return for a free retest. Haven't been back to a council test station since using these folks - highly recommended and great price - Heat added!

I know one in Feltham who’ll do a dodgy mot for £100 but I’d never use them for that very reason. I’ve had a bad experience with ATS breaking my air con in the past so wouldn’t trust them personally.

Couldnt of been the air con had a problem that happend to give out at the time it was with ATS

no, thought not, could never happen 😋😋😋
I believe they also carry the royal warrant courtesy of HM the Queen. If they cheated like VW group did they would/should lose it.

What a totally pointless post.
Always go with who you know.
If not a council depot one is a good choice.
Im stuck with Peugeot next year as cars first mot .
will get it done a day early so under warranty.
Also they gave a £750.00 warranty cover letter which runs out 11 months after first mot.
So 1 day early for first mot and then 1 month early next year, keep 13 month mot and I can use the warranty in year 2 mot.

Not really, they make quite a good point. A good trustworthy garage is generally around half the price of the council places. Plus, as the council places don't do remedial work, then you still need to find a trustworthy garage to get any required work done.

Indeed. And if they have a full-time MOT tester, they need to keep him working the whole week. So a local MOT garage won't exactly feel much gratitude if they can see you have paid £50 for a council MOT when you could have had it done for less by them, keeping their MOT tester gainfully employed then with everybody understanding exactly the work needed to get your motor through the re-test, said maintenance work often starting soon after the first MOT test once they have called you.
None near me
Good find perfect timing. Do you think it will expire before March? MOT due in March. Also has anyone had any experience with them servicing a car. Maybe I could kill 2 birds with 1 stone
£20 for an MOT is essentially done at a loss. Garages who do this are, to a greater extent, hoping that referral work (MOT fail issues) will come from it to provide the income.

Whether or not they look for or push 'fail' items is very much down to the garage itself (you'll get some good, some bad) but the head offices of such will give encouragement to find them (as it is in their interest to do so).

It's a good option for if you are pretty sure your car is pass-worthy, or if you just wanted an appraisal of what needs doing.

They are tyre brake and exhaust fitters essentially.A interim service may be ok but I wouldn't be impressed buying a car full of ATS service stamps .They always seem to find faults for some strange reason with the same parts they carry in stock!

I had a groupon mot in my £15k car I had only bought 6 months ago knew it didn’t need anything the garage rang me wanting £270 for repairs. Told them to stop and I would pick the car up. I took it to my local garage and it passed with not a single advisory. So if your in Hull beware of groupon mots

T&Cs state a partial retest fee may apply if rectification work is carried out elsewhere & not brought back within 24 hours. Still a great price for an MOT though
Not all Ats are on this promotion

Problem is, at least with some cars, that a strict MOT test can adversely affect you selling in the future too.

As all MOT history is auditable by potential buyers, it can be off putting to see a fail, and so I'd only just a cheap MOT with a cheap car, personally.

I bet fleet cars get rinsed
I've used ATS before and found that the guys there spend 90% of their effort in trying to upsell. Be prepared to have your a/c recharged, your wheels aligned and your battery changed before they let you drive off.
As well as having mine done in December with no trouble, my partner had his in at ATS today, passed without any issues. He has had it there before for work and a part they used failed, they replaced it free of charge twice until the problem was rectified and even covered the cost of a more expensive part. I can't fault them.

How would you know who to trust? Based off reviews? Shopping around? Talking to garages and try to judge an expert? I found a garage with full 5 stars reviews, part of the good garage scheme, they didn't even bother to reply back when I asked for a quote to service and MOT a common hatchback a month ago.

Just build a relationship with some local guys who seem to enjoy a steady trade, & see how it goes. Or ask friends: who's good/ reliable around here?

Doesn't surprise me you didn't get an answer to your digital? query. You're better off parking up for 10 mins then going in to their premises and asking them for a quote face to face.
As a rule cheap MOT usually equals failure and a bill for work. Ive used same garage 15 years with no fails. Before that they all found hundreds of pounds of work. £20 won't cover cost - so they need some work off you.

If you are this concerned with mot history, just get a £100 “clean mot”.
Until I got my present car I have used the same mechanic for 20+ years. He is an ex mot tester as well.
I gave him the car Paid him £60.00 for MOT.
That includes test and taking car to mot and back etc.
The mot garage knows he was a tester and car never fails on the so called grey issues, worn bushes etc.
Was a vectra so failed on coil spring every year. Always took 4 new springs with me to garage ready.
My mechanic liked cash for some reason and always quoted a good price for any work I needed done,
The bottle of wiskey I left him every xmas helped.
If your concerned with mot history, Dont be all car need work at some point.
Until this car all other cars ive owned had at least 100,000 miles before I bought them.
Non local.
