Feel sorry for all that have lost their jobs. Especially this close to Xmas. I know personally a guy told on Wednesday job gone as of now. And no wages for last 4 weeks. He has a wife 2 kiddies and one due in 3 weeks.

Times change and spending habits evolve. This website is a classic example of that. People shop around, if another shop is selling the same or similar for cheaper that's who will get the customer. To many old school businesses resting on their laurels in shopping habits of yesteryear whilst racking up debt to keep the shareholders happy. Brexit is nothing to do with it.
I think it's a real shame. Makes a huge difference being able to go I to a shop and try a pram etc for height, weight and folding down etc. Mothercare used to price match too and I always found their customer service to be excellent.
Still overpriced which was their downfall.

I just saw it in the local and national press. Other than this I have no further details theguardian.com/bus…ale
I'm guessing it's 10% off most lines. Administrators will squeeze every bit out of it before bring the discount up
Edited by: "steve123uk" 8th Nov
It'll be little or no discount to start with heading up to the better deals closer to when they finally close. By that time though all the good stuff would have gone so hit and miss what bargains you'll actually get.

Has the same when the store in town closed.. Some deals to be had but all depends if you get there at the right time to find anything

No wages for the last 4 weeks because they get paid monthly and pay day is today.
It’s very unfortunate but any business that goes under with a huge name are always to blame. They didn’t move with the times and unfortunately that was their downfall. The same with Woolworths, HMV and Toys R Us etc.

Saturated high street with too many relying on repeat business. Recipe for closures.
Feel sad for all the retailers and staff. All big shops keep closing down in town. I rather not have all the bargains.

Guess now Mothercare is on its way out mamma's and pappas have the market for in store testing of stuff before buying online bargains. 😁
Sorry silly question here...if something is in sale at mothercare then I can use that price for price match at another store, say mamas n papas even if the price is in store only?

No, its a sale item so no one will price match it

I see...coz sometimes sale price can be price match but just not sure if this can be since it’s like closing down sale
If it follows the walsall store closure will start at 10% discount then work its way to 60% when they actually want to close the store.

I found the website really slow and difficult to navigate and delivery very slow. As I live nowhere near a store I rely on online shopping but didn't use it as often as I would have had if been better

Yes the thing I found is the reductions are too slow. By the time anything is competitively priced the staff snap them up I expect.
Ive just been to the leicester branch.most clothes are not on sale, pushchairs are about 10% off.people going in and walking out with nothing.
You got better offers when they weren't closing down

That's the difference. John Lewis will price match sale prices i.e. A reduced price on amazon. Mothercare hold out and go bankrupt. I blame poor management.
Both the stores in Cardiff same the worker said it doesn't go live in store today as they still don't have the sale banners and they start it of with 10% was stood there since 9 a lot of disappointment folks stood out in the cold

The store I'm in doesn't have the banners, but the sale comes off at checkout. I didnt wanna stand and question her about everything, but clothing is 20% off
Too expensive, rested on their laurels no surprise they are closing.
How WH Smith is still on the high street is a mystery.

You mean like when people go into Curry's to test out a tv, kettle, washing machine, fridge freezer....... And then order it online from the cheapest place.

Can't blame them
I went into the romford store yesterday tbh I couldn’t see a thing I’d buy even if was hugely discounted.

I feel it’s a real shame those who loosing jobs, I hope you find one soon.

I took my little boy to get his hair cut @ shortcuts ideal place to go for kiddies & no longer will be able to go.
The hair dresser was so sweet & wont be able to find employment now as was pregnant

A mothercare closing down sale has the reputation of a DFS "sale"

20% of is not really that much maybe will pop in tomorrow morning and have a look
20% of at the till at Merry Hill store for now
Dont bother online everything is sold out
Went into store today and it was 10-15% off tag prices. No refunds or exchanges unless faulty.

Those poor poor vultures.
It’s not as simple as “rest on their laurels”.

amazon and online only companies operate on an unfair playing field, letting others do the hard work of having a shop to see the goods and letting others pay tax while they don’t

Don't think that will work.

Mamas and Pappas have gone into administration.

I really liked being able to go in and physically looking at a pushchair before spending hundreds on one !! I love their clothes but they can be quite over priced unfortunately
