Its not saying PAYG

also says

"This mobile phone is unlocked to all networks and sold without a SIM"

My nan and mate has this phone, same cpu as the 8GB Moto G 3rd gen.

but smaller lower res screen, the screen is not too bad though.

it has got almost same specs as 20 pounds more expensive MOTO G, which has to be unlocked... and has more or less same specs (just a bit better processor and a bit better screen).

it's same thing basically:

Bigger higher res screen, much better camera make it worth the extra £20 imo. Only £1.69 to unlock too. Last moto g I got from tesco was locked too, not sure about this one though.

This is good value if your happy with smaller screen though.

this one is unlocked.
Yeah deffo unlocked as they sell pay and go one for £79.

Good value for sure and the cheapest anywhere.
The phone is famous for the wrong reasons. Its the phone that Motorola, (when owned by Google,) said would receive lots of updates and then only gave it something like 265 days until they dropped support, (as Moto was sold to Lenovo.)

Do not buy this phone if you ever want updates. Just pay the £20 more for the Moto G.

it has got lolipop.. like majority of all androids in the wild

of course, MOTO G is a better phone. but it is more expensive + locked.

They've announced that they are releasing Marshmallow for it now. I might be wrong but I don't think they ever said it wasn't getting Marshmallow; it just wasn't on an initial list they put out.

If I'm wrong then it not such a bad deal. I'd still pay the extra £20 for the G though.

The Moto E is smaller in the hand, and probably runs a bit faster owing to the fact that it has fewer pixels to push around. It's quite a nice little device.
Its a handy size. think the 3rd Gen G is too big.
PLUS- bundle deal £10 loaded sim for the same price!!
Buy any SIM free phone over £75 and get a free Lebara SIM and £10 credit

Am I silly waiting for the doogee x5 pro to come back in?
Just to add on the moto g 3rd gen v this.
The moto g 3rd gen has a slightly higher clocked cpu 1.4 v this 1.2 which might cancel out the pixel difference strain on the cpu. This is still a decent deal though and is due for marshmallow.
This will get Marshmallow - Motorola did say it wouldn't but have now announced that in selected markets, it will. Although by the time they actually push it out we'll all be on 7.0. The phone itself is a nice device but the camera is poor. It struggles a bit multitasking - but it's a good budget phone.
Depends if its important to you but Motg E does not have a flash facility on the camera apart from that looks OK

As someone with a Moto G, my phone is still on 4.4.4 KitKat - it's supposed to be 5.1 Lollipop but never happened.

That's strange, all my friends with G's are on 5.1 and lovin' it. Maybe you are rooted or on an obscure carrier that are slow with the updates.
Biggest issue with this phone is they still only have the 1gb ram from the original moto e.
We really need a 4.5" 2gb ram phone at budget price, preferably with microsd support like this.

My 2nd gen moto g is still on 5.0.2, should I have had another update. Wasn't too keen on the lollipop update over KitKat to be honest, phone seemed more laggy after, but no simple way to roll it back so I've stuck with it.

Yes, I don't like 5.0.1 or 5.0.2. Why don't you head down to XDA? I'm sure those guys have figured out a way of manually installing 5.1 or at least a way to get back to Kit Kat. Its the first gen that I've seen 5.1 on so it makes sense that the second gen should have 5.1.

Not sure why you have not got it? my old 3G 1st gen got it along with my 1st gen 4g model.

Yeah I know it can be done, just can't be bothered to waste several evenings trying to do it!
Ive just been upgraded to 5.1 this morning on 1st gen with Three
if camera was better I'd have got this over the g

Don't blame you there. Once you know how to do it however, always nice to be able to flash back and forth to not get stuck on something as horrible as 5.0.2.
Bear in mind the weakest part of this phone is the 1GB of RAM. Which is equal to the amount in the moto e released 2 years ago.

Have you tried updating Motorola update services in Google play store first then check for an update.

Aha that fixed it, amazing that they require an update to receive an update! Cheers!
Just picked one up at Sainsburys for £60 on Vodafone. Plus £1.65 and ten minutes to unlock (ebay). Seems to be running pure Android with no Vodafone bloatware. Nice phone.

Are u sure it takes away the bloat? I thought the code only unlocks the phone (eg so any sim works)
I don't think Vodafone put any bloat in there at all. The more I use it the more I like it. Compares well with my wife's 2nd gen moto g. The lower screen resolution is hardly noticeable (to my eyes anyway). Camera isn't as good, but that's about it.

I bought one last week but returned it today as it's too laggy for me. Didn't install any extra apps (other than kindle) yet I still found it pausing for long periods randomly when internet browsing or opening apps
