Found 28th Jul 2015
Was just in Tesco Great Yarmouth and they have the new Moto G 3rd generation in. It was £139 PAYG and £14.50 contract.
Pretty good compared to the price for the last gen. Not sure about unlocking yet though of course.

Chatted with Motorola UK online support.
Motorola G 3rd Edition for UK market is a a single sim variant.

How are Tesco with unlocking mobiles? From what I've read if it's PAYG, it's 12 months to get it unlocked free or £10 for it straight away. Is that right?

Is this the NEW Moto G that's supposed to be announced at the Motorola event today?

Yes mate. Couldn't believe it when I saw it in the shop. It was only a dummy unit but it felt really nice in the hand and very well made. The back has a nice textured feel to it.

Nice. Been waiting for this phone so I could get it for my wife. Did it say it had a micro SD card slot? The events at 2pm so hopefully we should know more spec wise.

I'm wondering the very same thing. Definitely interested in acquiring this phone but wanting to stick with 02 as my service provider. Also, does it come in black...

It has a micro sd slot and it is IP waterproofed according to the screen sticker.

The display model was black.

the first moto g I got from Tesco was unlocked on eBay for £3, hopefully the same sort of price for this one.

Hmmmm interesting... Rumours were it was 5" , is that true op ?
Would be interesting to see all the specs of this and how it competes with newer models which are cstarting to get budget and competitive

It's probably the 2nd gen? There were 2 different 1st gen ones and then the 2nd gen.

It's definitely a 3rd gen. Asked them if I could have one on my Anytime Upgrade and they told me they weren't allowed to sell it to me yet but to come back later

It's 5". Quite a bit larger than the old model. Wish I'd taken a photo but I was being watched.

3rd gen apparently comes in 2 models, 8gb 1gb and 16gb 2gb. So wonder which this was? More likely the more basic one?

That was the thing I don't know. Nowhere on the display did it mention storage. I assumed it would be the 8gb for £139.

Will this be dual sim like gen 2?

Couldn't see any reference to dual SIM.

tesco site suggests it is unlocked already.

The 2nd gen wasn't advertised as dual sim when it was launched and was only found out later

The new Moto G 4G is definitely sold as single-SIM in the UK, and it has just 8GB of internal storage (with an extra 32GB possible through microSD). The model number is XT1541.

Find Your Perfect Match - Motorola Mobility Live Stream @ 2pm.

Motorola is set to take the stage in a few short hours, at 9am Eastern in New York, and unveil the third generation of its blockbuster Moto G and Moto X handset lines.

The Moto G is expected to be one of the best value-for-money phones when it lands, as always, featuring a 13MP/5MP camera duo, 64-bit chipset, and 5" display for a rock bottom price, while the Moto X is expected to carry some unique features, which has become a signature trademark for the name, too.

In any case, Motorola will be streaming the announcement live, and you can watch the festivities directly in the video above, which should become live as the event nears.

Only the 3g model of the 2nd Gen was Dual sim. The newer 4g 2nd Gen is only single sim. I'd guess its not but it is a guess.

this is the second gen moto g which despite being generally available for months has only just been added to the tesco mobile range. clearly not the yet to be unveiled anywhere in the world 3rd version I'm afraid. tesco mobile store staff know diddly, dealt with on numerous occasions and their knowledge is poor borderline deceitful trying to get a sale.

It was definitely the 3rd gen. The Tesco staff may not know the difference but I certainly do.

It's on sale today so it's not far fetched to believe Tesco have stock

It looks nothing like either of the previous models. It's a lot bigger looking even though it is still a 5" screen it just looks bigger. The back also has a waffle texture similar to what all the super hero movie costumes seem to be made of and it didn't have the Moto dimple. Felt really nice in the hand.

I just got a code from ebay for about £1.50 to unlock my first gen Moto G

the 3rd gen is now up for sale on the Motorola website, prices from £179.99 so if tesco are selling it for £139 its a bargain

There is a link for it on the website thought not available yet: here

I said it was the Gen 3 for £139.

Not long before Tesco CC Boost event starts 3rd August running until 13th September.

hotukdeals.com/dea…682

Can't see the link on the Tesco's site?

Wow just launch by Motorola for £179 and Tesco already doing it for £139

I have the original moto g and by the look of the specs its hardly worth the upgrade?think ill just keep using my trusty 1st gen

Thanks OP. I like the look of it. Ive stuck my Moto E 2nd Gen up for sale on here too.

Would do anything for a 4.5 inch version of this phone.

Have they actually improved the spec this time? For £139 I'd expect 64 bit octocore, 2gb ram, 13mp 5"+ handset and at least a 3000 mah battery.

I think the only upgrades are the processor, ram and camera.

I really hope the 2gb ram version is a good price.... this new 3rd gen is not pushing the specs enough considering there have been how many versions since the original

Having said that i'd really like one! the battery is bigger and camera better but 2gb ram and 16gb memory should be the standard version... but it all comes down to cost i guess

No doubt this will appear on amazon and cpw shortly.... well done for posting op
