MOTO G 4G £135 (possibly £120) at Tesco Direct

Found 17th Oct 2014
Thought I'd share the fact that I managed to get one of these for £120 yesterday. It's priced up at £135 and locked to Tesco mobile. However, I used one of the several £15 off codes around at the moment (varies by account which one is accepted) and got it unlocked for £1.69 from smgreen (shop is Simons Empire) on E.bay. I tried this a few weeks ago and on that occasion it couldn't be unlocked. It depends which IMEI batch you get. Just make sure you don't open the box prior to checking if it can be unlocked. Worth a go if you can get the money off code to work and Tesco offer free returns to store if necessary.
I won't waffle on about the merits of this phone. Anyone who has been on HUKD will know all about it. We now have two of these in the family and are very impressed by them.

Had one of them since launch. Had nothing but bother. That's after the first was replaced too.

I did have a thread to sell it on here, but quite honestly I'd rather throw it on eBay and let some randomers scrap over it instead, just wouldnt feel right selling it to HUKD users.

It could probably all be fixed with software updates, but given how horribly buggy last years moto g was too, I doubt they'll have any urgency about it. I have a feeling a lot of the issues like notifications not coming through till screen turns on will be related to the battery saving of the device, so will probably never be fixed.

The battery is excellent though I must admit. Sitting at 35% after a day at work, 5.5hrs screen on time with auto brightness, streaming music to BT for 4-5 hours. Not bad.

Bummer!
Sounds like you had a duff one. We have now got the first and second gen. Wife has the first gen and teenage boy the second gen. Both have nothing but praise for them.

mines been mint too. such a good phone. I just had my 3rd iPhone pack up on me so just give up on them and bought a cheaper well reviewed phone. moto g 4g is such a good value phone with loads if great features.

fantastic value and a better phone than the daft backwards dual sim version they brought out.

FYI this isn't the 2nd generation model. The 5 inch screen model is the 2nd Gen.

Is this really second generation? AFAIK, the second gen 4G model isn't out yet, it looks like the first gen and the screen size points towards first gen.

Last years moto g buggy? This one nothing but trouble? Er, I think you're either incredibly unlucky or talking nonsense.

My works phone is a Moto G and I have had no issues with it

i voted hot due to the fact you have given a heads up on the code. I think its cold because the price is £135 and peeps want a deal (and who can blame us!). I paid full whack a months ago. The phone is ok for the money but N6 is looming and I will probably go for that.

I agree but the deal is that I and hopefully many others can get it for £120 with very cheap unlocking when the sim free version is currently is currently £149 at Tesco!

So far so good. Now to find a new cover that replaces the back at the same time and acts as a magnetic power off (like the 2013 model has).

Both ours now have the wallet style cover (plenty on E.bay ) that does switch it on when you open it. However they do increase the thickness of the phone as they don't have the integral back. Advantage of it is that you can keep a credit card and some cash in it as well.

Did I say there was?

Does anyone know if the 4G model is dual sim??

No it isn't. If you need dual sim you will have to go for the 5 inch sec gen non 4g version.
