Moto G 8gb unlocked from £99 Phones4u (upgrade prices)

Found 15th Mar 2014
I was instore yesterday and saw that the y had the moto g available from £99 as a payg sim upgrade price. I believe this was posted here a couple of months ago, but has been showing as expired the last month (when I believe prices went up).

I think its well worth posting again as its available again, I got one myself yesterday...been really impressed with it, I won't be returning It to the shop like I did with the Nexus 5 (great phone, let down by poor battery for me, and saved £130).

Anyhow...

Prices iirc...

t-Mobile...£109
Virgin...105
Orange...£99

Sorry, can't remember others

No need for unlocking, topups, etc

Just walk out with an unlocked phone, as nature intended.

Oh, and a free white back

After a days use...DO Believe The Hype

What does upgrade prices mean?

Can I just walk in and buy it like a normal sim free phone?

Thanks

Brilliant phone, I bought the 16gb version from Tesco a while back and love it. Shame Google have sold Motorola to Lenovo, means won't be any more like this with early Android updates.

the staff of Motorola will transfer as part of the buyout, Lenovo will want to leverage as much as they can from the Motorola brand and people that's why they paid the billions they did. The head of google mobile moved to Motorola and is now with Lenovo so don't be surprised if you see the products in the product development cycle to be released as stock android and for this to long continue in new phones as well.

same price from asda and tesco - been posted recently from them if you cant find this deal at your local.

Got mine from asda, locked to vodaphone but works with ovivo sim card. £99 no top up needed

you use your current sim to upgrade handset only as long as it's been actively used for the last six months. You buy the handset sim free and pop in your current sim. hope that makes sense

In my experience, they'll always find a reason why you're not eligible for an upgrade.
I've tried 3 times, and not managed...

Excuse my complete ignorance but:

1. Will this work with 3 mobile - I note that some mobile deals exclude 3 mobile but I don't know why?

2. Which size sim do I need?

bought 2 for relatives when phones4u first had them in stock before tesco, 2 orange sim upgrades no problem.

can anyone comment on the quality of the camera on these? The wife is considering getting one but is slightly put off by reviews stating that the camera is poor.

The camera is terrible, I think it might be worse than the one on the two-year-old phone it just replaced. If you want it for anything other than relatively disposable pictures, don't buy.

Show us a better phone at this money.

Oh of course, you can't!

Bought this for a friend at Christmas. It's an impressive phone.

The main draw for me was the battery, just been steaming tvcatchup, Only lost 14 % over an hour, (low brightness, high external speaker). 7 hours approx...very impressive, nexus 5 was getting only 4 hours on same conditions.
Almost as good as my note 2.

Doesnt support Sky Go! Useless.

better or equal deals appear to be available for vodafone/ ovivo, o2 , giff gaff and tesco sims

O2, giffgaff, tesco at £99.99 + TCB available without need to top up

hotukdeals.com/dea…038

vodafone/ovivo £100 no need to top up

You're right, sky go is useless

Camera is important to me and one of the reasons I am put off this phone. The reviews don't seem to agree with "terrible" though.

For its audience the Moto G's camera performance is more than good enough, and anyone who says otherwise is simply asking too much of a £135 phone
trustedreviews.com/mot…e-3

Think I'm going take the plunge and grab one of these, was going to go for an S3 but might as well save me a 100 plus quid

Bought one of these last weekend for £100 @ Asda - paid £1.99 for the unlock code on EBay and now happily using it with my 3 Sim.

I have this phone. Came from an iPhone 5S after it was stolen by some cretin. Always had iPhones since the first incarnation back in 2007 (got one sent over from America). Love iOS and always found android to be cheap and tacky feeling in comparison.

Anyway, when I first got this Moto G I hated it, for the reasons stated above. However, a month in and I'm converted. Android is not as bad as I first thought, once you get used to it. It's certainly a lot more customisable. The Moto G, for it's price, is a great buy and I don't regret my purchase. My only gripe really is that, quite ironically, Google's apps, such as Gmail, for example, are a lot better on iOS then on android. Oh, and I miss Facetime and iMessage.

Works perfectly fine on 3

Original Poster

Yep, a works fine on Three.
However you don't get the ultrafast 3g as you do on say the note 2.

I am getting a steady 3mbs compared to the variable 3-8mbs on the note 2.

However its kind of fast enough for video streaming, and possibly is more consistent because it is not looking for the best signal all the time. That hour of streaming I bad was totally smooth, and I am in an office at the moment, which may be limiting it somewhat.

I'm fine with the camera. Within the context of someone to whom the camera is important, they would probably find it terrible.

You can't upgrade with an o2 number but any other network should work.

The £99 price is only for Orange (assuming there's been enough top ups/activity on your account), other networks are £119 otherwise handset price is £139

Well yesterday I got.my T-Mobile sim upgrade for £109, and virgin was possible for £105...

If its of any interest to anyone, I went into phones4u at the start of march when it was £110 for the on pay as you go, someone walked up to me to ask if they could help, I told them it doesn't matter I can find it cheaper, just as I was about to walk out the door I turned around and asked if there was anything that could be done if I say were to get a sim contract to, after 30 minutes talking to the guy I walked out and paid £69 for the phone, and £16 unlimited data unlimited text and 2000 minutes a month for only a 12 m contract, this is £1 more than what I was getting from giffgaff a month and got me the phone much cheaper, my first post on hotdeals so I hope it helps,it may be worth mentioning at the time I said I was paying £12 a month for the same contract but 500 minutes so they matched that haha

anyone know where they do a 16gb one for sub-£130?

Tesco direct 16gb is £139 and there is a £10 off code for first time customers. Have a search in the voucher section.
