This is more similar to the g3 than the proper g4, though less waterproof, at least the battery is bigger. Has NFC which is a step apart.

Cold! This is 2016! 1gb does not cut it! for £90 not worth it!

Spend only £10 more and you get 2gb ram and a 1080p display, for the Ultra 6

Sorry

If this was the proper 2gb ram version it would be worth it!

Do not use Vodafone. They are the worst company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with.

Maybe people who are looking at a 5 inch phone want a 5 inch phone not a 5.5 inch one?

1gb in an android phone! Oh my god I would rather eat my own toe nails.

Amazon list this as 2GB RAM, but I spotted a review on there from somebody that sent theirs back due to it only including 1GB.

I don't understand why the UK version is limited to 1GB RAM, while everywhere else in the world gets the 2GB RAM version. Odd decision from Lenovo.

Yes, absolutely. I am still yet to get my refund for my cancelled prepaid order. Waiting for the last 6 months, worst company to deal with.

While I can sympathise with both of you (I've had my fair share of trouble with Vodafone), it isn't really relevant to this deal, which is from Carphone Warehouse and for people already using a Vodafone Pay As You Go SIM. Buying this wouldn't tie anybody into a contract with Vodafone.

Got a vodafone 6 ultra and its been great ....admittedly cost £105....but totally solid ...bit like his toenails.....;)

Is this the replacement for the Moto E ??

or are they going to replace that as well to confuse things further?. Only 1GB ram is a let down

Still good value. Hot

What he said, its a Carphone Warehouse deal and will be SIM free and unlocked.

FYI - Its also available on o2 but its £10 more.

No the replacement for that is the Moto E 3rd gen.

A 1gb phone is not good value at this price

No the Moto E3 should be out this month. It is almost identical to the Moto G4 Play, except it uses a Mediatek chipset and is limited to 8GB Storage.

it does yes. I wouldn't buy a phone with 1gb ram. might be fine for others though

Are Lenovo going down the Panasonic / Vestel route with this odd model?

If all Motorola Motos had NFC, removable battery, 2gb Ram, 16Gb internal, compass, decent camera they surely would have a winner.
They are getting there!

Yes, but you can only have all the features if you buy four separate models. Maybe that's what they are hoping for; split the best features across the line up in the hope that everybody will buy 4 smartphones instead of one.

I would have thought it should be cheaper for them just to manufacture one Moto G with all the best features, rather than manufacturing a bunch of crippled handsets.

I predict 16 different Moto G's for 2017, similar to Asus with its ridiculous ZenFone 2 line up.

I have bought 3 Moto G phones so far, So am on board with this brand. However I strongly suggest you should buy last years Moto G3 over this model. Because;
1 - G3 Has a better camera (16m/p)
2 - G3 has a better CPU (Quad-core 1.4)
3 - G3 is water proof (IPX7 certified - water resistant up to 1 meter and 30 minutes)
4 - G3 is approx the same price !

The only improved feature is the inclusion of NFC, and if you don't know what that is, its not worth the mistake of buying this phone. Also if you buy a phone this year. Make sure it has at least 16gb internal memeory, if you intend to install more than 4 apps, not already included on your phone.

having a waterproof mobile with removable battery is probably impossible?

I have an 8gb moto G and just as a lunch time exercise, and because I'm curious I will look at the apps and size left in my HD. (and I'm just looking at my screens so I might miss some, but probably not)

Apps installed (marshmallow fyi)

Facebook,
gmail,
flashscores,
flipboard,
fantasy premier league
messanger
dropbox
drive
google keep
Google calendar
google maps
Youtube
a calendar widget I downloaded,
Just eat
Nova
Tesco mobile
Google rewards,
whatsapp

then the usual stuff like google play store etc etc.

With that installed and marshmallow I have 1.39gb remaining. (the o/s takes up 3.46gb)

the above gives you an indication of what 8gb can hold. Ignoring the fact that marshmallow can allow you to use you memory card internal storage although I have not tried that so cant say how good it is.

8gb probably isn't big enough but its fine for some people and although I will go for bigger in my next phone, its not causing me any issues yet.

I think the Moto E3 Power (XT-1706) will be a better buy for around the same price (if it comes to the UK, already available in Hong Kong):
5" screen
1280 X 720
MediaTek MTK6735p
2GB RAM
16GB
3500 mAh battery
8MP & 5MP camera

2) it's the same processor. It was underclocked to the same speed on G3 according to several reviews i read.
4) g3 fair bit more than this with 16gb storage and 2 GB ram except when Moto had their code stacking mistake

Solid state memory takes a hit in performance once you fill it past a certain percentage, its another reason not to get 8GB device.

Marshmallows adoptable storage is great until your SD card fails and you have to reset your phone.

The G3 actually only had a 13mp camera. Also, megapixels aren't a good measure of a camera's quality.

Admittedly though, the G3's camera was brilliant considering the price, and I have no idea whether the camera on this G4 Play is actually any better or not.

The camera isn't quite as good as the Moto G 3rd, although it is very similar. Photos generally look the same when zoomed out, but are less detailed when zooming in. Low light photos aren't great on the G4 Play either, but are only slightly worse than the 3rd and G4.
