Seems like a good deal for the G5 Plus

I know the G5 Amazon deal for £135 is quite a bit cheaper, but with this you get quite a few extras on the 'phone, such as 32GB memory, better camera, gorilla glass etc... Also, free next day delivery.

Both grey and gold handsets were in stock at the time of posting

Two drawbacks. 1. No compass meaning a less precise satellite navigation and renders other application useless, such as Trip Advisor's direction finder to local restaurants etc.

2. Moto G5S Plus is being announced on 24 July. It'll have a 5.5 inch screen, dual lens camera, all metallic body including the sides and possibly a compass.

Both these things are true! Mobile phone tech though is constantly being updated; the post isn't saying the phone is the best you can get, just that it's the cheapest you can get it

Plus a tenner cashback on topcashback or quidco, on sim free phones, if your lucky.

Not sure why this is cold, definitely worth £65 over the Amazon deal on the regular G5 in my opinion.

Had to bite at this price £200 - £10 TCB. £190 when I was tempted at £240 a few days ago. Don't think the G5s Plus is going to offer anything extra that I would want, especially not at this price

This site does make me chuckle. This is still showing as a cold deal, although it is the best price that it's been, always reviews well, seems to do most things that people would need it to do.
Is the G5s Plus going to be £190? I wouldn't have thought so. Nevermind, you can't please all the people all the time. Heat added op, thanks for making my decision easy for me

Glad to have helped someone!

I assume that people maybe think it's the same phone as the G5 Amazon deal and therefore vote cold.

I personally reckon it seems to be a bit of a bargain and picked one up as well.

It will be people clicking before reading. They see the G5 3GB for £135 and automatically think this is a terrible deal, without realising its a different phone.

I personally think that this is a better deal than the Amazon one. Especially if the camera is important to you. The cam on the normal G5 isn't great, there have been no improvements since the 3rd gen.

I think you're right. Ignore the naysayers. I always think if I post a deal and it helps 1 person then that's fine by me. Cheers again

To the OP: it might be worth changing the main deal picture to a Moto G5 Plus rather than a standard G5, that's probably helping to fuel the cold votes.

This is a great price for this phone. Bought direct from Moto for £218 a few weeks back when two codes were stacking. This is the lowest price yet.

Thanks op, great price.

Have you found the lack of compass sensor a major bother? And is the camera as good (for it's price) as claimed on review sites, in your opinion?

The camera is definitely one of the best available at this price. However, its not as good as the Galaxy S7, despite use of a similar sensor. The S7 has better dynamic range, and is better in low light.

I cancelled the G5 ordered from Amazon, and got one of these instead.

What swung it:
1) cpu's nearly twice as fast based on benchmarks, not important/noticeable now, but experience tells me with future android updates and new apps this is the only thing that will extend the phone's useable life over time, and I do run my phones till they grind to a halt.
2) much much better camera, in fact close to the best money can buy. This saves me thinking/buying/carrying a pocket camera I have in mind.
3) turbo charger, 15 mins for 6 hours of use, apparently.
4) 32GB instead of 16. It means I can stick a 32GB micro sdhc, which are cheap as chips if you haven't got one already, and be good for some time.

It is not without downside - this can only take a single sim, and the battery in the G5 is removable and therefore easily replaceable, not this one, but the battery in my G1 LTE is still going strong, so hopefully the difference is not important.

With all the above, I just think the price difference, which is only £55 after TCB/quidco, meant this phone has the edge overall.

Cheers!

I have had this phone for the last few weeks and have used the TomTom app for satnav extensively - works great. Really good phone.

Is it dual SIM? Thanks

Edit: I called them and they replied that it's the single-SIM version.

Ignore the votes - this is a great deal - I have bitten and will send my Dual SIM G4 Plus off under warranty once this arrives for the ghost touch issues and then ebay it.... (never needed or used the dual SIM)

Funnily enough I bought the G4 Plus and sent my Moto Z Play off for warranty issues too - I hope this is just an unlucky patch and Lenovo haven't reduced quality control below any reasonable level, this will be their last chance.

SIM Free, the S7 is over double the price and reviews suggest only a little better.

Dual lens is tempting I admit but reviews of other dual lens cameras suggest implementation is very important (q.v. LG X Cam, Honor 6X) and it's not automatically a great thing. I think it will be nudging £300 when first out too, maybe more?

Hi, Thanks for the advice

I wouldn't even have realised that I put the wrong phone in the image!

It's probably a little late to attempt to save this deal now though

Not surprising, they own CPW these days (and many of their stores have a CPW in them now)

This or the P8 Lite @ 140?

This or the P8 Lite @ 140?

Which P8 Lite? The original, or the P8 Lite 2017?

I would go for the P8 Lite 2017 if its only £140. The original P8 Lite is only worth around £80-£90.

The p8 lite 2017 is 150 in the same cpw sale, with the same 10 tcb available.

If picture quality is important to you and you have the money, the G5 Plus is likely to get you better results. With the price difference it's a bit apples and oranges though.

This is half true, but a big reduction on something that is hugely overpriced to begin with wouldn't be a deal. This however is a best deal on a what seems to be a great phone for right here right now at this price and this price bracket. Heat certainly added... And ordered

Mine arrived today and it's dual sim.

I'm pretty sure the Currys version of this phone only has 2GB of RAM. It's hard to know though as I can't find any definitive source on the different versions available.

As above, Currys and CPW are the same group and even co-locate, so quite likely it is the same phone.

Thanks, that's the same model as the one which arrived for me today from carphone warehouse

I got the info that the Currys model was 2GB from the 'ask an owner' page on their website. A few people had asked if it was the 3GB model, and people had answered that it was only 2GB.

Glad to hear that it's the 3GB version they're selling.

There seems to be so many models of this phone available (here and in the US) that it's hard to keep track of them all

I'm so tempted by this. I have the Moto G3 and its been so good.
The downside about the next generations after the 3rd one is that they dont make them waterproof anymore.
And I do have a bad habit of watching youtube and listening to music in the shower.

The dilemmas

Lack of compass is a deal breaker. I'll probably hold on until the G5s is released in the hope of one on there. Its the only thing stopping me from buying one.

Anyone else got it? I got as it seems a good time to move up from my G4 Plus where it should only cost me £40-50 difference between selling and buying and I'm already loving the gesture control to replace the navigation buttons and the new way of accessing the app drawer.

Got mine. Single sim.

**** Carphone Warehouse have started charging sim free price if they 'think' you are going to put your own sim in Jesus how do they hope to police that. What do you say to them now to ensure you get an unlocked phone at the payg price without some tellytubby denying you the phone

Got mine earlier this week; seems like it's quite a lot faster than my G4, which seemed to be slowing down a little of late. Nice to have a camera which takes photos on the same day that I tried to as well!
