Great post - THANKS!!!
Ive ordered a lunar grey one
And paid 6.95 for next say delivery to my house
Excellent deal - I wonder if both sims are capable of 3G at the same time rather than the 3G/2G of the G5 dual sim?

(dual 3G is what's needed to use 2 x Three SIMS are such like)
Best phone at this price point
this or the Huawei P10 Lite?

* Have the ability to get the dual sim P10 Lite for a similar price, thus the question, any help appreciated

Shame no G5s plus which is the better phone
I got one of these for my mom as opposed to the Huawei or Honor phones. The main reason being the screen. The Moto G5S has the usual Gorilla Glass, while the cheaper Huawei and Honor have regular glass which scratches and breaks rather easily.
"storage (ROM)
32 GB internal, up to 128 GB microSD Card support"

NB the sim/sd card tray takes either 2 sims, or 1 sim + micro sd.

The processor in this one is barely any quicker than the Smart Ultra 6 from a couple of years ago, worth the investment for one of the Plus models with the far superior 620 cpu
£199 for g5s plus at currys

not much diff between plus and s plus, but ive never needed a compass tbh and no other phone touches it in that price range especially for a stock android
Got this for £169 from motorola website with 10% discount code and student discount
Got one on order for pickup. I'd imagine performance is simular to the wileyfox swift2 plus (same CPU/Amount of Ram i think) but this should have a better screen.

I'll try and find out if 3G bands work on the 2nd sim with this one once I get it.
Unfortunately after being a fan of Motorola for years these new lenovo ones aren't great. They seem to have removed many sensible features and feel very basic. My advice is go look at the phone in a shop and try before you buy. Sadly not many phone shops have these on display (now I know why). Charge works fine but it just doesn't live up to Motorola standards.

Totally agree. I've got the Moto G4 and G5 and both good phones, but not as good as they should be. Also, Lenovo phones have crept up in price without being justifiably good enough.
The smartphone market now offers better value at this and lower price points.

What would be your new 'go-to' budget handset that's not from Aliexpress/Alibaba?

That's exactly the problem - UK/bricks and mortar shops have a limited selection of handsets, leaving Moto as about one of the best budget options, unless you want to purchase from overseas or Amazon.

To answer your question - I would recommend Xiaomi. Buy 'em from a UK seller if you don't want to deal with Gearbest et Al.
i'd agree too - they've become buggier and the hardware is less reliable too, ghost touch being just the most widely known issue. My G5 Plus camera has an issue with anything but close up snaps. After both a dodgy G4 Plus and an X Play, I'm beyond giving them the benefit of the doubt.

No. G5S Plus has a dual camera (f2.0 IIRC) 5.5in and is Android 7.1, G5 Plus 5.2in has single f1.7 camera and is Android 7.0, this appears to likely have the old camera module from the G4 Plus based on pixel count, PDAF etc. The recent phones appear to be remixing elements from various models in different configurations.

My Moto G4 developed a shockingly poor battery life after less than a year and the screen has really bad burn-in, so I bought a G5 a few months ago. The battery is smaller so I still run low on juice towards late afternoon and now I've noticed that the screen on the G5 is also beginning to get burn in issues!

These will be my last Moto/Lenovo phones.
...it's a lot of money for a low end CPU. It's a similar spec to the Nokia 6 (but smaller screen) which can be had for a lot less now. Would only be worth the extra if camera is top notch (and it's reliable).
Looks likely like the 2nd sim will use 3G bands - at least it's showing Network type UTMS on the sim status screen where is the wileyfox would always only show GSM.

Also if I do a manual network search on that sim it shows 3G networks including 3 (My 2nd sim is O2)

The G5 Plus has better reviews than the G5S
Plus and is cheaper, £199 at Carphone Warehouse.
Now back up to £229
