GMS arena says the compass is market dependent, the lack of compass has put me off Moto G phones since I had the G4+ and found the lack a real pain when in a city using the sat nav to walk around (and spend much wasted time going the wrong way as GPS alone is not good enough for walking)

I know it's all about saving money but don't get why some markets get the compass and some don't...very odd,.surely it's cheaper to make one phone for an entire region rather than multiple model variants.

I deserted Moto and got a Xiaomi note 5 - never thought I'd do that but the phone is superior in most respects to the Moto equivlients, sadly.

270 PPI is quite low. I guess it will further help it's endurance. We need another Lenovo P2.

Yeah maybe they get a perverse satisfaction knowing we're walking around in circles

I think those days of pocket friendly screens are behind us sadly.

It's crazy because there must be a market for them.

I was going to joke that soon we'll be going back to the days of people have holsters for their phones but it is already a thing!

I don't think it does. It would be listed with the gyroscope, something like "magnetometer (compass)"

Apparently it does have a compass - see my post above
Pretty good looking budget phone. Battery a plus. Am I the only one not convinced by Pie yet? I think it needs a few more months to get it self together.

Even the moto one has a 720p screen, with the same res, but this is £20 cheaper currently, so would be my choice for a big battery phone.
The standard G7 (sold via Amazon £239) and the G7 Plus (sold via Carphone Warehouse and EE £279) are the two to watch out for.

Granted the battery is standard capacity, but overall quite amazing specifications for the price.
I can't understand why they release another 720p phone. Everything else on the market is at least 1080... Is there a market niche for this now that everyone is getting 2k/4k screens??

I'd rather have a 720p screen than the Snapdragon 425 in the G6 Play, having said that, I hate stutter in a phone, and so the sd632 should be a million times better.

Like @rev6 said 271ppi is low, but it shouldn't be an everyday issue, just don't use this as a backup to the galaxy note 9

Nice deal if you don't mind the notch
Great battery life, dual SIM.
Xiaomi must be squeezing these manufacturers recently.

Meh, I'm not bothered about screen quality, 720p does what I need, I feel for a phone aimed at Battery by choosing 5000mah it makes more sense to use better battery consuming parts like lower pixel phones

Have you put a custom ROM on it yet? It has an official LineageOS release (Oreo). I'd mess around with that first before upgrading to this. It also has Pie ROM's.
