I prefer the Xiaomi Redmi Note range, far more reasonable pricing and TRUMP has not yet identified them as 'technica non grata'.

The phone does apparently have some random shut down issues though, so far no fix for it:

Motorola is an American company, owned by Lenovo. Most phones are made in China these days, that doesn't mean iPhones are Chinese, for example

That's strange I've had mine since December from Amazon and had no probs with it. Brilliant phone for the money and battery lasts me 2 days.

It was.....but Motorola was divided up and sold off:

Motorola Mobility is owned outright by Lenovo, it's got to be considered a Chinese owned company now, they may still have American design teams but it's a Chinese owned and run company.

Motorola Solutions Inc (their radio division) is still an American owned company.

Originally it was just Motorola, then the mobile phone division was sold to Google and called Motorola Mobiltiy (but usually just referred to as Motorola) who then sold it to Lenovo.

Yeah, said that above clearly before. Lenovo Group owns many companies, I suspect in the five continents.

That said, I suspect much of Motorola's product design is carried out in Chinese campuses nowadays, along with all manufacturing. Only about 800 employees in Chicago HQ. Nice front...

Motorola have great phones... I've had a g5s plus for two years after having an iPhone for years. I thought I would hate but it's far better than an iPhone. I tried a Samsung for a few days and hated the bloatware... No issues at all and for the price they are a steal! Battery life is so much better than iPhones as well.

I'm returning mine as it restarts multiple times a day, and I've only had it a week! Wife has the same phone but it's fine for her.

I would pass as Moto ignore this known issue...

Hi, don’t know if you or anyone can help me,
Can I have 2 sims as well as a micro SD card all at the same time? Does it have slot for all 3 separately?

Somewhat flawed logic. Your direct experience would seem to suggest that you have one faulty phone, not that all Motorola phones should be avoided.

Ok, I would advise you to read up on it yourself.

I've had 3 previous gen Motos so I'm a fan, but not any more. I've wasted a ton of time moving bank apps to the new phone and then have to send it back...

It's a great phone, but not when it restarts at will!

Sounds like you have a bad app, only way is take them off your phone one at a time and see if it stops it restarting etc

No, it happened again twice after I wiped it, and left if clean for a day. My wife's phone has restarted once (in a week), but she's fine with that so not returning hers.

Like I said it's a good phone and maybe I've just been unlucky with mine, but there are other reports of the same issue on both this phone and the G7, so I'm going elsewhere from now on!
Some people!

I did have a bad experience with chinese brands apart from aforementioned two. Despite being high spec they are not properly optimised so the performance remains poor. General build quality is poor too. They're cheap for a reason. They are mainly sold in neighbouring countries of China where price is important than quality.

Ok, but they're not talking about "Chinese brands" in general, they're talking about Xiaomi, who make the highest quality phones going. Certainly at least comparable to Huawei, Samsung, Apple etc. Unfortunately Motorola are just not in that category, their phones have a lower build quality these days and their software quality control is appallingly bad, with many models having problems that render them unusable in the long run. Some people will have a good experience with Motorola, but the overall rate of issues is much higher than other companies.

You should buy a Xiaomi and then report back. They make fantastic phones which are well optimised. Be guided by your rationally held opinion based on first hand experience.

He's guided by a rationally held opinion and 1st hand experience. I can perfectly understand it, I have both too. Xiaomi phones are all shiny specs to catch buyers' attention and low price tags to catch their wallets.

Software is poor, feels like 3rd world phone, bugs aplenty, your personal data soon in Chinese Communist Party's hands, a bunch of criminals, SAR enough to fry you and your family up.

Great buy mate, not to mention most Xiaomis sold in the U.K. do bypass legal channels, without proper contribution to U.K. economy. From crooks to crooks...not me thanks

You are right! I've also been warning people about the quality flaws on the new moto series. I had 3 moto phones in 2019 all with problems wifi, signal, network, bluetooth.....so ended my relationship with moto as well. There were numerous problems with the G7 which Motorola acknowledged but did not fix, instead releasing the g8 plus which was no better.

Sounds the same as my Moto Z that I just had to replace, the screen has failed now, but it was constantly rebooting, a couple of times a week.
Bought Chinese this time, realme 5pro 8Gb/128/GB for sub 200 from a hukd post (Amazon Spain). I'm very impressed with it.

Xiaomi have a UK presence and sell throughout Europe. You're painting them out as some kind of criminal enterprise. Miui is fine and not some 3rd world experience as you so eloquently put it. RF exposure can be found on the Mi website if it keeps you up at night. I think you'd be surprised if you tried some of Xiaomi's current offerings.

What are your views on Huawei out of interest?

I'm certainly no fan of Xiaomi, my previous description a bit overstated, earlier today I voted hot a Mix 3 5g deal in-here, because it was a decent price from a U.K. retailer, so I'm not immune to good specs and price tags, I just don't like the user experience as you can feel that corners do get cut, in order to assemble those appealing specs, somewhere's gotta give.

I'm happier with a less powerful processor, but nicer UI, no bugs and no ads, like fellow-Chinese players 1+, or even Motorola, as maybe it can be considered a Chinese company now, as their U.S. base much slimmed down. These two provide a truly premium, smooth user experience.

Huawei's biggest strength is the camera quality provided by German partner Leica, software is better than Xiaomi but still I wouldn't call it premium, hardware quality almost on-par with Samsung now, indeed designs look pretty similar.

Again, it's the user experience and privacy concerns what make their phones less appealing, not forgetting lack of Google support since Mate 30 line, still unresolved if Huawei has a future in Western markets, outside Android life must be difficult.

I agree. I had the same G5s plus. Fantastic phone - way better than an iPhone. Got that free Huawei P30 Lite now that was posted on here before Xmas, but it's not as good a phone and predictive text is crap compared to the Motorola..

I did own Mix 2 briefly, but I wouldn't call it enjoyable. At least I know what I'm talking about, hands-on experience. No, I don't recommend Xiaomi phones... there's usually something better you can buy on same budget, not necessarily best specs for the money, just a better phone
