Moto x Smartphone with DPD next day delivery for £270.58

Been looking at this for a while and played with a couple in a store or two - really nice device and the active display for notifications is a great feature.

I have a Nexus 5 and I am well aware that on paper it is a much better phone, but the Moto x feels better in my hand and the display (although lower resolution) looks nicer to me.

This seems to be the best sim free price at the moment, but I think another price drop will happen soon - I might wait a while and see what happens, thought I would post just in case others are on the cusp like me :-)

Never had issues with Handtec and DPD are great from my experience.

excellent price

This has been as low as £250 so you might want to wait unless you are really wanting it right now.

Yeah, that's what I am thinking - where was it £250 so I can keep an eye on it? Not seen any expired prices that low on here.

The tech press has been told that Motorola are making an announcement on the 13th (14th?) of May about a new device - it might be the Moto x+1 - prices could drop or the new one might be even better value!

What to do? Lucky to have such a troublesome first world problem

Heat for best price right now.

Thanks for that, found it now, completely missed that one in the expired list!

Will keep an eye on Expansys too - shame the UK didn't get included in the USA one day sale (American mothers day special)

Yes or the customisation options - a nice dark wood one would have been a bit swanky

Completely over priced for what you're getting, you can get a Nexus 5 that is superior to this in every way for the same price and for a little bit more you can get the LG G2 or One Plus One.

Not voting either way but I see no reason to buy this, there's far better options for the same money.

This phone may not have the best specs, but this bests out the Nexus 5 with a much better battery, and the active notifications are awesome. The feel of this phone is one of the most comfortable I have had, the dimple in the back is perfectly positioned, and the 4.7" screen size is perfect.

Yes but you are just looking at specs and saying the Nexus 5 & G2 are better - I agree with Unrealistic's comments above - it is very subjective. This is not just a dual core phone, it has extra cores to monitor and administer the notification and always listening functions, battery life is great and the size is perfect.

I have had the Nexus 5 since launch and it is a great phone, but the moto x just feels better in hand to me and I prefer the amoled screen to the Nexus LCD (resolution difference is not noticeable for most) the notifications really sell it to me though.

The moto x shows what can be done with well optimised software and clever design, most other devices just shout big numbers and use the available power to overcome poor optimisation.

If the best people from Motorola and Lenovo get together and start making newer devices based on the same principles as the moto x, we are going to see some excellent devices arriving from them in the future.

I do agree with most of what you're saying, I suppose it really comes down to whether you prefer best value for money or extra features and bigger battery.

What I really find odd about this phone though is that other phones manage to pack in so much more hardware wise but still manage to have the same price as this, it just makes me wonder why Motorola aren't able to do this on top of having the notification features, design and bigger battery.

It's a decent enough phone though, I still voted hot but I just think Motorola/Lenovo could have done more with this phone hardware wise, like why they didn't choose at least the Snapdragon 600 over the S4 Pro Duel core.

I think the features offered in this phone are the reason for the cost - the motorola version of the S4 Pro is a specially optimised one and the additional cores for the speech recognition and notifications create a processing package that no other devices have currently.

The development costs to get this working as well as they have must have been quite considerable, hence the perceived high price for what many would consider an older spec phone. Also, the time it took to develop the entire package probably meant that they started working on this when the S4 Pro was a near top spec processor (or at least one that enabled them to work it into their X8 package)

I think of it like a Lotus Elise compared to a modern Ferrari around the same race track - both will feel great and give a similar experience, but the Lotus will get the job done with a lower spec but well optimised package.

I can see why people would be put off with a like for like price comparison though - lets hope it drops some more when the X+1 is announced

Anyone find a good Lotus deal?

Every phone thread has someone mentioning the One Plus One but where and when can you buy one? Could be weeks, could be months. If you want a phone in the near future then it's not an option.

Also worth mentioning is the fact while the LG G2 has a great screen and camera it is quite large in the hand as is the nexus 5. The Moto x is a one hand device for most people.

Edited by: "daBluone" 5th May 2014

mobile.geek.com/lat…ugh why oh why would you compare a Moto x to a Samsung Galaxy S5 when you know the S5 is going to blow the Moto X away spec wise? Because of the optimised, proprietary Motorola M8 architecture. These 2 shouldn't even be being compared and yet the review says its keepi g up with the S5

What I do like about Samsung is that it still has hardware buttons. Motorola and all other phones basically have a smaller screen as the buttons will take some space. I have a Moto G right now (dual SIM, 16gb) and I am happy with it for now, but I do wonder if the lower specs (17000 antutu score) might become a problem later on, as apps get more CPU hungry. It is a risky business.

wait for something you want so it might go down £20!

wait for next year and you'll get it for £170

great phone, bought it for £340 when it first came out. it is prone to scratches somehow and coming from an iPhone 5s this thing is awesome. nearly the same size of an iPhone but with ultra slim bezels it has 4.7 screen.

Just letting the op know in order to help. This is still a good price.

I using one now. Been through a lot of phones. Got to say this is lovely. Design build and software are all spot on. Only thing in my eyes that let's it down is lack of micro sd and battery life. I adore this phone just such a shame about the battery life.

Also I know Lot of people talk about specs. This phone has never ever come close to any sort of lag. Its ridiculously smooth.

I thought the battery was supposed to be good? Cant be any worse than my Nexus 4 I guess

Moto G has superb battery, the x not so .... an example.... my average journey into work the battery drained by 29% (thats an hours use) the moto g usually only drains around 15% .... (same conditions)

I'm gutted cos as a phone the moto x is lovely, the touchless controls are amazing, the active notications are lovely.honestly ... if this had a proper battery i'd not leave it, i can even live with the 16gb storage to be honest. just the battery life puts me off too much, i'm currently using a z1 compact, which is nice enough, screen isnt as good as htc one or moto x but the battery life is superb, which is really my main thing that i need.

Agreed that the Moto G has better battery, but then it is not doing as much as the X in the background.

The consensus at the main XDA moto x battery life thread is 4-5 hours screen on time with an easy whole day of reasonable use - I am quite a light user and I normally get much better than those quoted in user forums, so I am expecting a couple of days between charges - others are getting 2-3 days with light usage between charging.

Your battery drain sounds a bit high possibly, the XDA battery thread has a few people with similar battery drain and it does seem to be abnormal for the moto x

Im gutted to be honest as I love the phone as ive said .... bought it for 230 quid grade a from cex if anyones interested in taking a punt !!!

Swapped my Nexus 5 (£240 @ CPW) for a Moto X (£249 @ Expansys) and I daily confirm I prefer the latter over the former. This is the narrowest mobile having a 4.7 inch display. I'm getting 1.5 days off the battery with touchless controls off (no mic constantly on hoping for a "hello google" from you), which is good I think.

Just got mine from eBay, factory sealed for £230 with 10% eBay discount. Amazing phone. Touchless controls are awesome. Everything's as smooth as butter, no lag whatsoever. All graphic intensive games proving a breeze. I can't wait for the moto x +1

Has anyone used this retailer before? Because they seem to have the Nexus 5 32GB for £317 and it would be good to know if they are legit before I buy.

If you disable the touch less mic features the battery life increases dramatically.

They're legit but N5 white at this price is not in stock and black is nearly £350. Better to buy direct from Google play store as they offer handset replacement.
