Motorola Defy Mini. £39 instore at Tesco

41
Found 29th Apr 2013
Just been into Tesco and noticed that the Motorola Defy Mini was marked at £39.
This was at the Poole Fleetsbridge Tesco Extra. They had 5 on the shelf.
The price was on a white shelf ticket not a yellow clearance sticker so may (or may not) be the same price nationally.

wow not bad price, not the greatest of phones but nonetheless.

If you want the bigger, higher spec, larger screened more powerful Defy+ it's £69.99 + £10 top up from Three (unlocked)

I'm not anywhere near local to that Tesco, and the price was the same here.

I just picked one up from the West Quay store in Southampton. They were priced on the shelf at £50 but after enquiring the staff adjusted the price to £39. There was one left on the shelf at 10.30am. Many thanks OP, just pulled me out of a ditch.

Still on the shelf at £50 at Chesterfield Tesco Metro.

Quality

Bought one online for £45 with code a month or so back.

Collected from store and realised I didn't really need one, so took it back...

The refunded me £50!

This phone effectively earned me £5, so I love it now!

Heat!

Good price! Heat Slow 600mz processor but 512mb ram. Probably an ok starter android to wet the appetite!

Your comment is as antiquated as the the technology in this phone.

Ideal companion to (possibly rough) festivals?

Three are notorious for their high level of locking and branding phones....how would this one be unlocked ?

I just got my Defy+ from 3 today. It's not locked. Tried O2 sim it works fine. I think Motorola never made a locked Defy+ for 3.

I bought it last time when I saw here a tesco discout. Well, I can confirm, this phone worth less than how much did I pay for it. :-) Probably the £39 is too much as well. :-)

Cracking deal for a genuine sim free phone, ideal for holidays and festivals etc. Heat here!

I also confirm it's unlocked, tried o2 and Orange SIMs inside.

I have both and would strongly recommend getting the defy plus even for twice the price. The camera is better, the screen is better, the processor is better and , most importantly, the defy+ is much easier (and safer) to root. The defy mini is FULL of bloatware. There are so many motorola apps that you can only install a few of your own before you get the dreaded "insufficient memory" message. The other difference between the defy+ and the defy mini is that the defy+ is actually waterproof. You probably wouldn't deliberately submerge it for a long period of time but it should manage 30mins in a cup of water. One of the reviews on the internet for the defy mini mentions that they tried this (assuming that it was as rugged as the defy) and the phone died straight away. Supposedly the defy+ has a waterproof rating whereas the defy mini doesn't.

I installed a custom gingerbread rom from XDA on the defy+ because it enables hd video recording. There are also a custom android 4.1 rom available but hd video was more important to me. Don't forget cashback if you get the defy+, it is something like £12 on TCB.

Maybe it's the big flip off yellow flyer on display next to the phone that says "UNLOCKED" ?

Was the Defy+ purchased in store or online from 3? Would where it comes from make a difference?
Also was there lots or 3 branding on the software?

Ordered online, looks like no 3 branding at all. Didn't really look too much as was only checking it's unlocked. It's not for me, for my dad when his existing Defy eventually bites the dust.

I got this when it was £59 and it is great apart from the memory being VERY low, especially after all the Motorola Bloatware is on there.
Well worth the price though, even moreso now!!!

I'm also after this for my dad, I plan to put him on Ovivo network, so a reasonable priced sim free or unlocked deal would be great.

Hi. What, by any chance, did you do with the 3 SIM card? Sell it on?

Could sell if you need it?

Any London stores stocking this?

I can confirm my Defy+ bought online from Three was unlocked to all networks (I tried a Voda, Tmob and Three SIM) and has no branding whatsoever.
It was identical to the retail version I bought from Amazon, right down to the box saying 'retail mb526' on it.I assume Three bought up a ton of old stock from Moto.

I also tracked £13 cashback... but had to buy a £10 top up.

Someone on XDA bought one in a Three shop and found the same, unlocked, no branding etc... didn't buy top up as he had a 3 sim already.

Also agree it's a far better phone in most respects. edit I see three online have sold out of the Defy+ (probably as everyone bought them and sold on ebay for £130
