Motorola Moto G 2nd Generation 4G 5" Display £139 @ Tesco Mobile

Our car got broken into last night and my wife's Moto G 1st Gen phone was stolen. We've got about £150 to spend to get her something new, She's on the Tesco network. I think this is gonna be the phone we get as it seems like a good deal, but dose anyone have any other Android phone suggestions in this price range? Thanks.

sorry about the car mate, I'm using the moto g 4g and it is really really good, but it has 8gb memory n only 4gb is useable, but it can be sorted with a cheap memory card

If I had to replace my moto g I'd get the same again. Don't think this price is a hot deal.

Cheers for the advice and sympathy folks. I know she's comfortable/happy with the Moto G, but I can't find it any cheaper than this, apart from Amazon but the Amazon deal is only a pound cheaper and doesn't state if the phone is 4G or not #confused.

Will this be locked to Tesco whereas the Amazon will be sim free?

I Know it's usually an easy and cheap unlock, but personally for the same price I'd get sim free

Have you tried using Google's find my phone app that (usually) is enabled on the phone?

Yep tried, but no luck

I've got a 3G second gen Moto G and it's quite hard to fault for the money. I would also have another one if I needed to replace it. It isn't as slick and the screen isn't as good as something like a Galaxy S3 or later, but it's quite acceptable. By the same token I wouldn't cry quite as much if it got damaged or stolen! I am a little disappointed with the semi-forced Lollipop update though. Perhaps I shouldn't go there!:-)

I'd buy a Zte blade s6 phone. I replace my moto g 5inch with.it and not looked back. Google it

How about a Sony xperia E4G?

Her Tesco sim only deal gives her 4G as standard, so was really looking at a 4G phone as a replacement, but thanks all the same.

Just had a look, thanks for the advice. But it's £20/30 more than I wanted to spend, that said it looks a decent bit of kit for the money.

Excellent phone for the not-too-demanding user. Official Cyanogenmod 12.1 (Adroid 5.1.1) is out too and works well. Happy with my move to this from Nexus 4.

I bought one for £120 from virgin online. Ordered it late Friday afternoon and it arrived early on Saturday morning. It was unlocked too.

1st Gen Moto G 4G is only £95 at Tesco online, or apparently £85 in some stores. Or The new Moto E 4G is £99.

can't recommend these. Bought one and it gave me diarrhoea

I think it is. Great screen on it, SD card slot, 4G, looks like an iPhone. Yhe GUI looks great out of the box. I have been really happy with mine. for £30 odd morethan the 5", you can get the 5.5 inch phone from gearbest.com.

Possibly, though recent reports - including the one by marklucas50 (reply #12) on this thread, which I've copied below - suggest they have got their act together now.

Alternatively, buy in-store.

Thanks, great find!

Ordered sucessfully for £109.99 (Virgin SIMO Customer already) - the whole call took just under 10 minutes, and went like this...

Called: 0800 064 3847

Me: "Hi, I would like to order the Moto G 4G, 2nd Gen please"

Virgin Rep:"Ok, the price is £119.99"

Me: "As I am already a current Virgin Mobile customers, I have been told that you can sell me the phone for £109.99 and not include the £10 top up"

Virgin Rep: "I'm not sure that's something we can do sir because our systems have changed."

Me: "My friend who told me about this phone ordered it yesterday for that price, they said that the person they spoke to then spoke to the supervisor who agreed to do it for £109.99"

Virgin Rep: "Ok sir please give me your current virgin mobile number so that I can see that you are indeed a current customer and I will speak to my supervisor"

Me: "My number is XXXXX"

Virgin Rep: "Thank you, please give me a few minutes and i will speak with my supervisor"

3 Minutes Later

Virgin Rep: "Ok thank you for waiting, my supervisor has shown me how to sell the phone without the top-up so we can do it for £109.99"

Etc.

Just tried this with Virgin customer service and it worked.

Have to vote cold as the Virgin deal is obviously cheaper/better. Phoned the Virgin store in Glasgow and got one reserved, called in later and picked it up. As an existing Virgin SIMo customer, the £10 top-up was deleted so paid £109.99. And it's unlocked, contrary to what the store staff might tell you.

Please can you confirm if the phone is unlocked if purchased from VirginMedia? I'm already a VM mobile customer but would want the phone for Three? Thanks...

The one I bought from Virgin was for my wife, who's with 3. After setting it up on wifi, I put her 3 SIM in and it connected immediately.

This now comes with a £20 giftcard, which was enough to swing it for me. Though I am on a Tesco mobile contract, so don't care if it's locked.
