Well there are so many options to choose from that a lot depends on personal taste. This is a pretty decent phone for the price.

Almost bought this then decided to go for a refurbished LG G4 (bootloop problem phone) for 14.50 after cashback

Good deal, but lack of NFC counts me out on this one.

Agree, NFC should be as standard as Bluetooth in phones, it costs pence to implement at mass production level, and whats even more surprising is Motorola used to be a Google Company so they will have seen Googles roadmap ahead of many other Phone Devs and yet still didn't have the foresight to make sure its in all phones going forward.

Why is NFC such a stumbling block? Ive had it on my phone for years and never used it, my debit card has contactless

Guys I have had this phone for 2 weeks now after having the Moto G 2nd and 3rd gen. Performance is very much improved over the others and the screen is just fantastic easily big enough for watching movies. Battery lasts easily for a day with fairly heavy use. As for Talk Mobile only offering 3G I don't really see that as a problem. My download connection at present is over 25 meg. At home my fibre optic is only 36 meg. So its fast enough for me. I have a monthly contract at £12.50 from years and years ago with unlimited mobile data. They keep asking me to upgrade so they can cancel the contract and impose a limit on the data. They swiftly get told to feck off.Ha Ha I'm currently camping using the phone as a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot and 5 days in i've used over 35 gb which if i was paying would cost a fortune. No complaints about coverage and I have had 3 different devices streaming Now TV and Netflix at the same time with no buffering.

My Moto E does this. Well, it gets stuck on startup of you've got it plugged in. You just can't power it up while charging.

There are countless other uses for NFC besides contactless payments when you get into programming your own tags.

can't see all the fuss about lack of nfc. had it in my last 4 phones and used it a total of twice and had to turn it off on the current phone as it kept interacting with my bank card and running the battery down! Android pay maybe in the future, but as yet not all banks support it.

This Vs a Google Nexus 5X?

Very cheap, and quality is very good, is a good choice, I feel good to use.

Agree. Even without Android Pay, NFC can be really useful. I picked up 10 cheapo NFC tags from ebay and have programmed them for all sorts of things in combination with Trigger and Tasker e.g. switch wifi on when I get home with a tag on the door, off when I get in the car and switch to 3G with a tag inside the car etc, trigger a pre-set timer with a tag on the washing machine to remind us the wash is done, a tag at my office desk fires off a message to my other half telling her I got in safely after my long commute etc etc. The possibilities are endless.

You can automate your entire life with NFC with a few cheapo apps and tags which sell for under 50p apiece. I picked up 10 NFC tags from ebay and have programmed them for all sorts of things in combination with Trigger and Tasker e.g. switch wifi on when I get home with a tag on the door, off when I get in the car and switch to 3G with a tag inside the car etc, trigger a pre-set timer with a tag on the washing machine to remind us the wash is done, a tag at my office desk fires off a message to my other half telling her I got in safely after my long commute. a tag at the door presets our boiler to a low setting on Hive when we leave the house, another Hive tag near the bed reduces the heating at night etc etc (I know, how lazy can you get when all it takes is a few taps on the Hive app but that's lazy us!!)
The possibilities are endless.

Strange as NFC only works when the screen is on and the power used is so tiny its negligible , I have tried all my cards against my Z3 and none of them pick up.

I wouldn't recommend porting your number from Vodafone to TalkMobile directly, because porting a number to an MVNO that uses the same network usually causes issues, such as both numbers becoming disconnected for weeks. I have had this situation twice when moving a number from Voda to TalkMobile, and also when transferring a number from EE to LIFE Mobile (which runs on EE).

I would recommend porting your Vodafone number to a free PAYG sim card on a different network (such as O2, or EE), and then port your number again from the PAYG SIM to your Talk Mobile contract. It's a messy way of doing things, but it can save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

You request a PAC from your original network at any time. You then give the PAC code to your new network after it is all up and running (call TalkMobile customer services to give them the PAC once you have received your order).

I have heard this reported; happens when your bank card also uses NFC (most use RFID) and your phone is asking you what to do when it gets close enough to detect the chip in the card.

Dude, it's time to write a strongly-worded letter to your bank.

Bear in mind that if you do this, then you will have to wait around 2-3days between each port before you can get a new port code from the newly transferred sim card.
I recently moved from GIFFGAFF (O2) to ID, but upon starting to use them realised I had made a mistake and decided to move to LIFE (EE). However I only put in the request of number change a few days ago and ID said I needed to wait 2-3days while the "process settled" before I could get a code to leave them. It struck me as a weak excuse, but still, I can wait. Just be mindful of this as it may happen if you jump your number around likewise.

Either way, Good luck

I ported from a voda contract to talkmobile no issues whatsoever. If your going for happy hour id change your mind and get 200mb free every month and 321 rates on three

looks a good deal to me, is the phone unlocked?

Likely to be unlocked, never heard of one from this retailer being locked.

only downside to the nexus 5x versus this is the storage for me. is there anything else worth keeping in mind if buying a nexus 5x. doesnt seem to be a clear choice over this for a lot of people despite the 808 processor
