the 2 year warranty makes this a better deal. ordered. thanks op
Just mentioned it because it might be interesting for someone who lives abroad like me. Amazon will deliver to Holland.
nice one op! was looking for one of these and the 2yr warranty is a bonus
Does anyone know from experience if the lack of compass makes mapping and route apps not as useful (e.g. Google Maps or Viewranger)? I have a Sony Xperia S that is dying and I need a new phone in this sort of price range, but these budget phones don't have half the features the Sony ones do.
How does this compare to a Nexus 5? Any advice from the knowledgeable would be greatly appreciated as need to get a phone for the wife asap.

Having used phones with & without compass sensors, it really does affect the user experience of Google Maps, etc. For me the compass sensor is essential, so the Moto G4 doesn't meet my requirements.
But heat added, as it's a cracking phone for people who aren't bothered by the omission.

Black same price … Black same price alsohttps://m.johnlewis.com/motorola-moto-g4-smartphone-android-5-5-inch-4g-lte-sim-free-16gb-black/p/2789422
Actually I just realised the Black is Single SIM only
When you go to buy on john lewis site it comes up as £150 for the white one...why the the difference in price from the link above?
Still got 3rd gen Moto G running fine, this is tempting but will wait to see prices a few months down the line.
Bought this phone from JL two week ago for £159 and without any argument they've price matched £129. Top notch retailer. Excellent phone by the way. Comes with a standard slow charger but for approx a tenner you can get a decent Qualcomm Quick Charge compatible charger that will go from empty to 50% in 30 mins and 100% in 1hr 20 mins. CLICK HERE for amazon link
How is this compared to redmi note pro 3? Similar price though I know effectively no warranty with the redmi

Anybody know of a good case for the White?
Tried two: 1) Wallet style £7.99 from amazon. CLICK HERE PU leather but appeared to be very good quality and fit. Sent it back as mrs topazz preferred... 2) Bumper case £5.90 CLICK HERE Clear soft plastic around edges and rigid clear plastic for the base. Better quality than it actually looks. Not the most elegant looking case but it does the job of fully protecting the sides and back. She's happy with it. To protect the screen i bought a tempered glass screen protector £5.45 CLICK HERE, it was easy to apply and i can recommend. Just make sure to apply it in a dust free room.
Its a shame they don't do the Black in Dual Sim as im not a fan of White phones. Im not racist btw

Are there any differences between the black and white other than dual sim?

No, apart from the difference in SIM slots they are exactly the same.
Thanks. Looks like a good deal

If you order directly through the Motorola website using their Moto Maker, I believe you get dual sim with both black and white versions. At least that's what their website states. Unfortunately not for anywhere near the same price though.

Didnt realise this doesnt have one. Last time i bought a phone with out one, UMI Iron, it bothered me quite a bit. Partly for maps and stuff, but i couldnt use a cardboard headset with it
i bought one of these on Wednesday from JL via their website for the normal price. Just emailed them now and within 5 minutes received a response offering a £30 refund. Just got to call them up and they will credit it to a card.
now that is good customer service.
Bought one. Cheers OP

Did you have to provide proof that you were actually eligible for student discount or just tell them the price?

If you can't afford a Nexus, and you don't want an iPhone, you simply can't beat 'em. Offers come and go, why not list them? Yorkshire Tea offers are much the same, but we keep listing them. CLUE - because that's what the site is for
