Not too keen on that tbh! I was considering Samsung J5 2017 but not sure if it's worth the extra money...

Does anybody aware that Amazon started charging returns if the item is not faulty? I had my first such bad experience in the past 14 years with Amazon!!

Never happened to me - you tried contacting their customer support/chat as usually they will just give you a free pre-paid label. The one thing with Amazon is that their customer service is above and beyond almost all other retailers in my experience.

Thanks. I contacted the customer care who sorted it and refunded the money. The point is that this is a new issue with Amazon, only happened 2 weeks ago.

Is this the version without the compass and gyroscope?

I believe this is a new trick by Amazon and not a lot of customers aware of it. How do we spread the news of this unscrupulous business by the Amazon?

Same price in Argos

its £149 and they give you a £10 voucher = £139

Anyone interested in this handset should google "G4" and "ghost touch"

There is a known recurring issue with this model phone and the lenovo screen it has. The phone registers '"ghost touches" when it is charging. Locking/Unlocking seems to get rid of the problem. But when your phone becomes unusable because when you unlock it immediately starts "pressing" on contacts. launching apps, making calls seemingly at random etc etc it becomes a bit annoying

Admittedly not every G4 has this problem. But we have 3 of these handsets in my household (me, my son & my daughter) and all 3 have suffered from the same problem. Mine has just come back from repair, my sons is in repair at the moment and my daughters has just started to randomly ghost touch every now and again. We are all 12 months in to a 2 year contract. My G5 is seemingly fixed now it has come back. But I'm taking no chances. I bought a doogee f5 to use while it was away and I'm sticking with that. Ive had Moto phones before (the Moto E) and no problems, but this model didnt really impress.

Using a g4 for about 6 months, was an amazing open box order. Not had any such instances of ghost touches.

Try walking around a city using Google maps and within 10 seconds you'll have answered your own question. For walking and using maps, a compass makes it totally usable, without a compass you rely on GPS and that means the phone cannot accurately know which direction you're walking, much of the time.... GPS only (no compass) does work but the phone cannot point the compass arrow to show you when to turn, instead the arrow stays fixed and the maps flip about all over the place. It's usable but you walk around in circles while the GPS tries to work out your true walking direction.

For driving in relatively straight directions along known roads, GPS only is usually quite sufficient.

I was about 8 months in before it started happening. It started off not being a massive problem. But In the end I turned on developer options and turned on "display physical touches" to confirm what was happening as I thought I was going mad and the phone was having fits.

But not everyone has this issue. Not all G4 phones, And I know theres bound to be problems with any handset really so if you search any handset name online you will undoubtedly find scary stories but, seriously, google it, and you'll see that it is not that isolated an occurrence either. Lots of people seem to experience the same problem.

Probably not worth considering really, but just putting it out there... we own 3. And all 3 suffer. That is pretty convincing stats right there (unless it really is ghosts of course )

What charger(s) are you using? If they're poor quality, or counterfeit, the electrical output can be quite noisy and confuse things like capacitive displays.

Seriously its not the chargers.

Developer options did nothing other than help identify what was happening.

Other suggestions like turning off adaptive brightness did nowt.

I bought a new expensive charger. I wiped and reset to factory settings and then slowly loaded apps to avoid app clash (as well as charging causing the problem it is an online suggestion that certain combinations of applications can cause the problem).

All I know for certain is that it happened (and I also had the random text sends), it got progressively worse once it had started happening (locking/unlocking the screen seemed to stop a "fit" of ghost touches but only stopped that occurrence and does not solve the problem it just allows you to manage the fault) and the only surefire thing that fixed it in the end is sending it off for repair and having a new screen fitted.

I was surprised at just how many people experienced the same issue.

Shame as it is otherwise a fair enough handset.

it does not have to be on charge to do it, it does it all the time even when not on charge

Yes Ghost touch happened to some G4's but I haven't heard it happening on this model which is the G5

I have a j3 and moto g4plus 64gb 3gb the g4 is the best phone I have ever I owned I upgraded from an iPhone 6s Plus apart from the camera this wipes the floor.

Not buying another Moto G until they've definitely sorted out the ghost touch issue. Just had to buy a new phone so can send this one for repair, happens when not charging, it's basically one pixel that acts as if it is being tapped repeatedly. Replaced with a Xiaomi, will sell the repaired G4. The G5 specs wise is not great, still for this price it's worth considering.

I never heard of it happening on the G4 before I bought one and experienced it. And btw I know this is a thread for the G5 not the G4, if you read all the comments I allude to this quite early on.

Exactly. Even acknowledging that there IS an issue would be a start. The G4 was the most expensive handset I ever owned. But eventually it was rendered all but useless because of a stupid ghost touch. Heard about how its caused by poor chargers, by app clash, by whatever. It starts off happening when the phone is charging but gradually gets worse and ends up happening more and more till everytime you use the phone it does it. And as for it being something the user does? Well I sent it off for repair. New screen. No problem at all now. But I'm sticking with the Doogee F5 I bought as a temporary replacement and the G4 is on ebay.

BTW Thats three people on this thread alone that have mentioned they have experienced the same problem...

This or g4 plus which is 150gbp on amzn?

No NFC (so limited Android Pay)
No Gyroscope
No Compass

Avoid

Just confirmed with O2 that they will unlock at no extra cost.
