Great mid-priced phone but hard to find and hard to get deals on. It's 20% off at Amazon Italy today, so roughly £220 (including postage) which is a significant saving on the best UK price available if you're happy to wait till "18-20 September" for delivery.

Good except no compass.

Which makes it not that great
£226 in gbp. Best to pay in eur?
Pay in Euros on a fee-free card and it works out just under £220 inc delivery. (I've updated title to make sure it reflects postage)

A great deal for anyone who missed out on the Amazon UK pre-order deal prior to 11th August. Does anyone know whether Amazon UK will be releasing this phone by the time Amazon Italy will be delivering it?

I asked Motorola UK when they'd have it back in stock (you can get 10% off with student discount) but they didn't know. I couldn't find any info on when Amazon will have it in stock.
Anyone know whether we can ask for the difference from Amazon.co.uk whilst we wait and wait and wait for our phones!?

I emailed Amazon the other day to see when the g5s (I realise this deal is for the g5s plus) will actually be delivered if I order now and they said they'd get back to me. I'm still waiting.

I find it odd that Argos have the g5s gold in stock for delivery but no sign of the grey one or the plus one on their website.

Yes Lenovo is killing the Motorola brand and introducing inferior products after buying it from Google. Negative
Good deal , heat added. Wont be parting with my Moto G3 just yet though.

After reading a couple of comparison reviews, a close call, but I'll be going for the Xiaomi Mi A1 for a similar price.
Or 'cheaper' if you go the GearBest, etc option and miss out on customs charges.
No reason to get this anymore when the Xiaomi Mi A1 is £170. is pretty much exact same specs, has stock android and 2 years guaranteed updates and has a compass

Yes there is still a reason to consider the Moto over the Xiaomi. UK/EU after sales support, UK/EU warranty and UK/EU consumer protection laws.

True. But for £170 the risk is a lot lower. You also get a years warranty with most resellers, though it's a hassle and takes ages getting replacements/fixes.

The guarantees mean nothing in reality. Samsung also provide at least 2 years worth of updates, yet that usually means 23 months of security patches and in the final month a rushed build of whatever the latest OS is that is full of bugs, forcing you to upgrade your phone anyway.

And the software updates are still being handled by Xiaomi. They get the final say. While google may be creating the software, it's Xiaomi who get to modify it as they see fit and distribute it when they want.

The motorola will be saved by official lineage when it eventually arrives though, and I'd assume the same thing will happen with the Mi A1.
It's the Android One program, so Google enforces that the OEMS must provide the updates. They have already said that it will be getting Android P. The software is also stock Android, the only modifications are the Xiaomi Camera app because stock doesn't support dual cameras, the Mi Remote app for the IR sensor and the Mi Store.

This is a good upgrade from previous model but it's still on Pre Order on Amazon UK whereas the standard G5S is out now. I have read on Moto forums that some people having issues with this handsets front camera being very dark, heating issues and severe standby battery drain. Could be people who have no clue what they are doing or early bugs. I purchased a brand new Motorola G5S last week at John Lewis in Birmingham for £229. Nice phone, lovely design, screen etc but the camera. Oh dear Motorola Right out of the box the camera was like looking through a haze with very blurry images and I am a photographer & I know what I am doing. It was absolutely terrible. Returned to the store and tried the other one they had in stock and that was the same. It was either a bad batch or the camera really is crap. I had never ever seen a camera on a smartphone look so blurry, out of focus and like looking through a steamed up window. There was also lots of noise in the images. So the standard G5S if you get one be wary. I am sure the G5S Plus will be better. Voted hot

Similar price at John lewis, dual sim, 2 year warranty £229,

That's for the G5S, not the G5S Plus!

There are important differences between them so you cannot compare the prices.

Anyway, the Italy deal is over now.

The Xiaomi doesn't have NFC either so no chance of Android Pay in this country.
