From the description, it looks like this is the Amazon version, which is only available in the States. Has the Amazon app store, instead of Google Play store, and adverts on the lockscreen, etc.

The Amazon version is 64Gb ,so maybe not that version ? Would be willing to gamble on it arriving (eventually ) with minimal customs duties and lasting a couple of years (no EU warranty) . However would it be a UK version or a flashed Chinese version with who knows what bloatware etc on the ROM?

Think I'll give it a miss (being pretty thick on the technicalities , flashing ? etc of smartphones ) and available on Argos for £209 (taking into account the £10 voucher ) . This one may even work out dearer if hit by Customs .

I never implied there was, just like Toby deals.

Just if someone is gonna buy this, then why not buy it for cheaper.

Because buying something because it's cheaper doesn't mean it's always a better deal, if you were to have problems with the device sending it back for warranty with these companies seems to be more hassle than its worth
Would not buy another Moto since Lenovo bought them. Just unreliable Chinese jdevices with no updates. Not even security ones.

I don't really care about any of that drivel.

Its my money, I'll spend it how I like, people crave warranty, fair enough, buy from the UK.

In 8 years of owning mobile phones and smartphones, only twice have I had issues, and they were fixable by me.

I think people can make their own choice, and know the risks of buying from these sites, like yourself.

Toby Deals are not registered with HMRC so that's impossible, they're probably doing false declarations and hoping the item isn't picked up in a customs check.

whatever they're doing the importer (ie the buyer) is still legally responsible if it does get stopped for duty.
I'm afraid these deals (Chinese sellers) are only for those who :-
a) Can afford to lose the money if /when it goes pear shaped for any one of a number of reasons .
b) have the technical savvy to work through any potential problems due to the phone being a non UK version (obviously no warranty and thus no help from the manufacturer).

I can afford the loss and I feel good saving money - but why bother to save £30 -£40 ? I know I couldn't work through any problems easily as many perhaps could .

My worry with these "Chinese deals" is that folks , who cannot afford the item , max out their credit card so as to look "cool" with the latest expensive phone (which they don't need ). Even worse , those tempted to again max out their credit card for their child to have a great present . Again all could be fine unless the purchase (un warranted ) turns out to be an expensive paperweight .

Nope

That makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?
I bought a cheap Chinese smartphone, a ulefone mix for £102 in December. It came, no problems, it's a decent phone. I have since ordered the moto6g from Toby deals.

I'll let you know if, when it arrives. I am hopeful

Just got a Moto G5S from Amazon Spain and it did four or five system updates after set up, the last one being for June 2018 security fixes.

They should probably update their website.

1.1 About Toby Deals

a. In respect of all other transactions, Toby Deals, 9/F, Billion Plaza 2, No. 10 Cheung Yue Street, Hong Kong is the responsible payment party in respect of the below operations

Oh, and my other point still stands, they aren’t registered with HMRC, nor is Toby Deals registered as a UK company with Companies House.

They are a Hong Kong based seller so why would they be registered as a UK company? They sell to the UK via a local importer/distributor. If you don’t like them then you’re not obliged to buy from them but for some people it represents a significant saving over buying locally.

No idea because I'm not really that bothered. All I know is that if you order from them it is delivered about a week later by DPD on a UK next day service.
