It seems like a really great spec for the money, wonder what the higher range siblings will be like.

Not as far as I know, but you know, you KNOW, that Motorola will be cramming the G9 range hard sooner or later... That's how they do.

Updates though...

v553525/08/2020 20:08

No, there's not much in the processors …No, there's not much in the processors eitherhttps://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9916&idPhone2=10387

This is the display according to the link you sent

720 x 1600 pixels, 20:9 ratio (~270 ppi density)

That's poor by today's standards even for a budget no?

Am I getting mixed up

It does have a 720, I suppose they had to cut corners somewhere, I'd imagine it looks just about the same as my mate 20 x, perfectly acceptable imo.
Oh nice! New phones!

Still available to order though.
Hopefully they've sorted out the wifi issues from the G7 and G8. The lack of updates is a real issue.

I have a G8 Power Lite, I like the phone, for the money I would have had no complaints about it whatsoever. It's so frustrating because I haven't had the phone for long and I had every intention of it being a keeper. I so wish I could love the phone and I would have, and it would have been a keeper, but for 2 issues.

Firstly, the phone constantly drops the wifi connection. It's the only device in the house that does this. It's a common issue with Moto phones. Lenovo are aware of it. They have known about for a long, long time. A quick internet search will show lots of G7 Power users suffering with this issue. The issue has gone unresolved by Lenovo. Not only has it gone unresolved, but whilst being fully aware of the issue they have released G8 series phones, that suffer the same issue.

Secondly, the G8 Power Lite is still stuck on Android 9. It was released on Android 9 despite Android 10 being out months prior to the phone's release. The phone is still stuck on Android 9 with no sign of Android 10 on the horizon.

Only the battery life is better. In every other department S9 wins

I too heard about the G7 power WiFi "issues" on forums before buying mine. But I've genuinely had no problems with any WiFi connection so it leaves me wondering whether it's a regional issue or a software conflict with a popular app people have installed etc.

It doesn't have 5GHz WiFi capabilities either so maybe that's something to do with it?

The G8+ is £120..

Is it still available for £120 though? If it is it's quite a bit better than this.

The Moto G series is such a mess. The standard G8 was only released 4-5 months ago, the G8 Plus is a year old and is still not upgraded to Android 10 despite the rest of the Snapdragon G8 line up being released with it.

Then there's the naming scheme for the G9. The UK "G9 Play" is the standard G9 internationally.

Yep. And the G9 play in other markets is pretty sub par

The G9 is the "update", the only way to get a new Android version with Motorola is to buy a new phone.
