So, I just bought one of these for the asking price (£379) from Argos on Saturday and then spotted that Amazon have dropped the price, of the grey version only, down to £300.57.

A pretty decent price for a decently specced mid-range smartphone. Cheaper than the recent John Lewis deal. More expensive than eGlobal but has the benefit of not being eGlobal.

Anyway, first deal so try not to go all Subzero on me.

Good first post, come across this on very for £349, so this is definitely a good spot, well done.
Unless you really want the mods the Moto X4 is probably better value.
This is very good tempting deal, just bought another few days though. Thanks @repocr4 for the deal. Keep it up. 😊

Oh come on. ...that was an incisive, fact based opion....packed with info without waffling on. Certainly helped with my decision not to buy it.
Why are Moto/Lenovo producing phones with such poor battery life?
I have the P2 which has much better battery stats than this.

Is that the only difference?

I only went for the 1st Z Play because of the battery life
Excellent overall phone, if you worry about the battery life watch this review first then decide for yourself:
I have this phone and it is good I recommend the JBL speaker mod battery life is good I get a full day and that's with heavy usage. the two biggest downsides for me are the camera and the chrome trim around the top marked easy as you can't use a case if you have a mod.
Antutu score is only 66,427 and they seriously want people to pay £300? Mental!

The X4 is IP67 rated as opposed to just being splashproof, has a dual camera system, and faster 802.11ac wifi. The Z2 Play has an AMOLED display and Moto mod support. Both have very similar processors (the X4's 630 is a marginally tweaked version of the Z2's 626) and the same capacity battery, and are otherwise very similar.

I hope you're joking, I have the Moto z play original and it's the best battery ever, infact I normally change my phone's Lot, samsung S6, S7, S8, LG G4, G5. This is my first non LG or Samsung phone and I've had it over a year, I love it, it's the first phone over ever owned that can easily last a full day with heavy use, constant music / Bluetooth streaming, YouTube, games etc, all day and it's Rock solid

The Z2 play is famous for having a lesser battery than the first version, despite that being what everyone loved it for.
Sorry to high Jack anyone know any good deals on the note 8 contract or sim free can't seem to find any and don't want concert tickets lol

Gutted, guess I'll stick with the gen 1 for a bit longer then.
I bought a Motorola phone 2 years ago today. It was brilliant while it lasted, but now suffers from pink vertical lines down the screen.

Clearly a common problem judging by a quick Google search - zero help from Motorola other than the offer of an expensive repair.

Never again!

Heat from me, I have played with one of these in a store and it was super fluid and great screen. I'e never had any screen issues with any of my previous Motorola phones

Getting hard to find now I believe
Those comparing this with the X4 seem to be omitting the important fact that the screens are different sizes...

Would jump on this if it had a notification LED instead of the pretty much useless Moto Display.

Decent find though so heat added

I assume you're talking mainly about capacity.
3000 mAh is very normal for a smartphone.
5100 mAh is not. The fact that 'monster battery' smartphones exist does not mean all other smartphones have "such poor battery life" as you put it. They have standard/regular capacity.
Obvious reasons are device weight and size
A bad choice all things considered.

Recently bought a OnePlus 3 for 160 pristine off eBay. Xiaomi A1 can be had new for about the same. Failing that the LG g5 has been around 130 for some time and has the SD820 and 4gb Ram (and removable battery very easy to keep running for longer)

This is not really a good deal, nowhere near double the performance of the A1 and the OnePlus would blow this out of the water.

You can also find the iPhone 7 in good condition with a warranty for about this price on eBay (330 last time I checked) If battery fails Apple will replace for 25.

High spec otherwise. And low stress on the battery, it using 14nm A53 cores. Saying that, it would have been better with a 4AH battery rather than 3AH.

The battery life is already very good, the existing battery is good enough. Saying that there's nothing high spec on this phone at all, it's midrange hardware.

Yes, if you get the OLED setting right. Otherwise it is middling.

I'd go G6 unless you're a fan of stock android. Had the phone as a temp while waiting for the Pixel 2 XL to come out and thoroughly enjoyed using it. I really really miss the wide angle lens.

Is the camera any better than the gen 1 Z play?

Much like TVs, you can end up with options paralysis when trying to pick a new phone. What happened with me was that my Elephone S8 died and now it's back with Gearbest which means I've got no idea if I'll get it back or refunded or neither.

So I wanted a reputable phone that the Barclays app doesn't think is rooted. I wanted some recourse if it goes wrong too. I've used Motorolas in the past and they've always been solid.

I don't multitask too much with my phones so I don't need the latest chipset. I also don't need the best screen, camera or onboard storage. I just need it to be good.

I do tend to favour a good battery and this one isn't too shabby but the option to extend with the Moto Mods but without adding too much bulk seemed good. I reckon with the Turbopower mod this'll be a battery beast. I'll see how it fares without it but it's nice to have the option.

The other thing is the gamepad. I can see me eventually getting onto that because I'm a big fan of retro game emulation.

The quirky Moto Mod options make this a bit different from the usual Android phone and sometime's that is all I need. For £300 this covers the basics for a decent price. I'm chuffed I spotted the price drop and already have my refund from Argos so it's all good.

Are you comparing second hand/used phones with brand new ones? If so that's hardly a fair comparison!

The Xioami is new. Otherwise buy in good condition and replace the battery and I’ve never had any issues with a second hand phone. Pretty much the only way to get a decent deal.

A lot of sellers offer a 12 month warranty as well. There are times when you get stung but in this case it’s worth the risk.

This phone is simply not worth £300, it has the performance of a 2013 flagship. If it were less than £200 it might be a deal but otherwise look for second hand or Chinese.
This is a great find OP, heat added!
The honor 9 is a better phone in every way and was recently £279.99. Cold.
