I throw this deal into the mix. I realise that prices are falling, new xoom2 out etc etc but if you are after a quality android tablet right now then this is a good deal IMO.

The blurb:

Motorola XOOM with Wi-Fi has a super-powerful dual-core processor and Android 3.0 - the Android platform designed specifically for tablets. With its 10.1-inch HD widescreen display, you'll enjoy HD video in a thin, light, and powerful tablet.

Thx for fixing the link. Didn't expect this deal to get hot, did it more as a public service to HUKD'ers wondering whether to take the plunge. *sigh* i also dont expect many of the cold voters to explain their rationale - assuming they have one of course. Ho hum..

Hot from me, good tablet and good price.

Oh dear confusion, Motorola Xoom or Asus Transformer?

The Asus Transformer Prime (available in the next fortnight or so) is the one to get if finances allow.

However this is a good price, heat added but I'm saving for a Prime.8)

That's the problem Dave, finances don't allow it.

My thoughts (for what their worth)..If you think you're likely to use the opton of the keyboard dock then I'd go for the Transformer. However, if you think you're really only going to use it as a pure tablet then I'd go for the XOOM. The XOOM has built-in HDMI, USB and Micro SD, the Transformer does not have the USB option, this is only on the keyboard dock. The XOOM also comes with 32GB built in, the Transformer 16GB (the same price version). Finally the XOOM is slightly smaller (though slightly heavier) than the Transforner) and has noticably better build quality as it's got an alluminium finish whereas the Transformer is a bit bigger and has a hard plastic back.

Hope that helps! Best bet though go and play with both and see which you prefer.

I've got a similar dilemma as some of you. Want to upgrade from my Archos 101 gen 8 but my heart says buy now and my head says wait until Q1 2012. The current crop of premium android all have their respective +'s and -'s. Dont think you can go far wrong with any of the current 10.1" screen android premium crop samsung galaxy tab, acer iconia, asus transformer, sony s.

A key factor though is to try and pick a tablet that will continue to get supported in the coming months,i.e. ice cream sandwich etc. Google having bought motorola mobility i would hope that the xoom would be first in line for the latest android developments but who knows? I fancy the new Archos 101 Gen 9 for its ace networking and media handling but now premium androids are coming down to undercut it meet it in price, it's looking much too expensive for the asking price. I'm sorely tempted by the xoom though.

I'm thinking of getting this for my boyfriend for xmas, Ive been watching the price for a few weeks and this is the lowest I have seen it, do you think it will drop any lower with the Xoom2 coming out or do you think it will stay this price?

Currys have just put it at £329.99 (less10% at check out) for on-line sales only. That works out at a few quid less than the price i found. Looks like this is the new current offer price for the xoom. The xoom price in particular and premium android tablets generally may drop some more before xmas but your time is running out. If i was buying it for me, I'd keep a close eye on the offers and leave it for a few days (the week end?), see what happens and buy then. As it's a present, is the nail biting worth a possible few quid saved? Might be worth checking out the Currys 7 day price promise on their website to see whether it applies. Hope that helps.

UPDATE: Amazon have also changed their price to £299.99.

Will probably drop a little more before Xmas but probably not much less than £280ish I would imagine. £297 @ Currys is very good price though.

Are they gonna drop in the new year sales tho?

@ AK Gunners - v useful info - thanks and Merry Christmas
