That is a seriously terrible 'deal' and you shouldn't be advertising it for sale in this section.

Voted actual deal hot.
At the speed Motorola is working at ICS will be available in 5 years.
Really good tablet and cant be beaten at this price. Was £279 @ Argos last week, but i got it from Tesco Direct for £245 (after staff discount). Easilly rooted and overclocked to 1.6GHz. The screen refresh is terrible though, which was a possible deal breaker but i couildnt find as good a 10 inch tab for <£400, nevermind <£300. Can be upgraded to ICS via either rooting and custom rom, or via updating to the US rom. I doubt the UK will ever get the ICS update offically.

The only alternative was the ASUS TF-300T but the QC is really bad on those devices (dead pixles, dirt / dust under the screen and screen visual bugs) and because its a DSG exclusive i wouldnt touch it with a barge pole.

I got this last time round, rooted it and it's been spot on since!

My only niggle is the screen isn't too clever, it's decent but coming from a Transformer TF101 and even the BlackBerry PlayBook, the XOOM screen pales in comparison to both.

However the applications for tablets has come a long way since I had my Transformer tablet and the homebrew/rooting scene for the XOOM is huge.

If you have £250 and would like a tablet and a tinker then this is a deal for you.
ive got my money put away for the galaxy tab 2 3g... apparently it has the phone function on it ? not that im gona walk around with it lol but would be handy to use while at work etc

kinda bored of my ipad now lol
Wow not one mention of .... Yet... Wait for it
I got one of these but hated the screen on it............so reflective was like looking in a mirror
Hasn't this tablet been at this price before on HUKD...and also been out for a long time now? From all the reviews I agree it's a good machine but shouldn't the price have dropped a little more? Thanks.

I havnt a clue what you are refering to ... (_;)
Both have their pros and cons, but personally i think the IPAD has more cons than pros, despite my 64gb IPOD been one of my fave devices ever.

I've just bought one, coming tuesday. I assume you have to root it to get the US rom?
Got one of these at Christmas and paid £320, great bit of kit. Had it rooted within an hour of having it and been runnning ICS since the new year. Granted the screen could be better but apart from that, no problems!
Been this price many times before, although an excellent tablet it is now first generation and is no longer worth this price.

Why though? ... the RRP was £479, not £279 and theres no real competition for it in this price range. Its just stores clearing stock for the (in many ways inferior) Xoom 2. Its not as if the IPAD, Galaxy etc drop massively in price after a year either. Calling it a 1st Gen device, is abit of a misnomer since alot of 'current gen' tablets have the similar or inferior specs. Its not like comparing a Ipad 3 to and Ipad 2. Like i said most people would buy this over an Xoom 2 anyday as it is better spec'd overall. It seems as if the Xoom 2 is a cut price version to lower the systems RRP. Since the Xoom was slated for its high RRP on release.

As far as i understand it no, it doesnt need to be rooted. A good place to look is XDA developers forum for info. I just wanted to root mine so i could OC it.
very much contemplating getting this. was really waiting for the 7 inch asus/google tab at the end of june. but saw and held a 7 inch tab yesterday. and its rather small.
Ive decided im not going to pick up my reserved item at the Leeds Colton store. If anyone wants the reservation code please private message me.
SO IMPRESSED WITH THIS THAT OUR WHOLE FAMILY CIRCLE HAVE BOUGHT4 WITHIN THE LAST 2 WEEKS WAS BLOWN AWAY BY ITS CAPABILITYS

You will only be able to OC properly if you use a custom kernel, Look at the EOS Rom, I just it on my xoom on "interactive" governor and I limit it to 1.6GHZ per core.
It also comes down to what you're going to be using the tablet for:

Productivity - The 4:3 is the better size, due to being able to being a more natural size (more a4 like)

Movies - 16:10, as you'll get the video making full use of the display

.. ermm, thats what i said. Shard presumably just want to know if he/she could update to ICS via the US rom and avoiding the root method. Although rooting obviously voids your warranty, it is now possible to 'unroot' your xoom back to its original factory state.
You can get sub 200 pound tablets that are much faster, thinner and have an IPS screen. So why anyone would want to pay more for this is beyond me.

Got this at £220 back in January from dixons. Still waiting on the ICS update though. It's due in the 2nd quarter.
Good bit of kit but I can't play all the movies I transferred from my hard drive and that's with different player apps!
Expansion slot is ideal but realistically you still need a laptop/computer to transfer the files onto micro SD.
(this not)COLD, not a toucpad.

Try downloading MX Player that should let you play all the movies :-)
