If you going to go for a Moto phone (and I'm not at all sure it's a good idea anymore) the Moto G5 has been £120 before and will likely be again this month, making this redundant.

This has been very poorly reviewed. It's bulky and not as good as the on board camera. Apart from the zoom lens it serves pretty much no purpose. If you can afford to cart the lump of an add on around you may as well just buy a little canon Ixus around with you and be done with it. That will last you for years wheras this will be on the scrap heap in about two when the phone becomes out of date.

bluecityste5 h, 47 m ago

Reviews of this actually say the standard camera is better, very strange

The mod and the onboard camera both use similar small sensors (around 1/2.3in) but the onboard camera has the advantage of a prime lens which offers better image quality than a zoom lens at the same focal length. The advantage of the zoom lens is that of course it offers the flexibility of a zoom and if you compare the onboard camera to the mod fully zoomed in, the onboard camera's IQ would be very poor as that would be a very small crop.

John

So this is a camera module that pairs onto a small range of Motorola phones. Dpreview gave it kudos and their review has sample pics.

Neat inovative products like this show up Apple as being very lazy for not bringing out their own version to pair with iPhones. Probably due to internal politics of having invested so much in the standard integrated cameras. Heated

Phone came as dual sim, excellent battery life.

I've read many website reviews and I think the feedback from HotUKDeals is that the price is quite reasonable.

Let's be honest this phone isn't going to be for everyone.

I've been using it for about a month now, and here are the issues I've had.

The finger print sensor doesn't always work first time but is still useable.
The 720p screen isn't the best for the size but once again is useable.
The camera is decent with the right exposure for a quick snap, but not exceptional.
And the overall performance isn't the fastest.

But for day to day use of messaging and calling and browsing the internet with some simple game usage it works perfectly.

To top this off the battery life is incredible, I couldn't go back to a smaller battery now, I can easily get two full days of useage and more with light useage.

I wanted to buy the P2 but it's not too easy to get, seems to be like an upgraded E4 plus with better screen and processor.

I went with this in the end, its been updated to August 17 Security patch and Android 7.1.1 and both this and the G5Plus are listed to get Android 8 - motog5.net/mot…te/

Figuring by the time android 9 comes out I will be hunting a new phone so that longevity was/is enough for me - I also love the speaker mod

This or Moto G5S Plus? As OP said this has slightly better specs but G5S Plus is a year newer. Same processor, same storage, same RAM, G5S plus is £10 cheaper. Will the Z play be supported longer from now than the G5s plus (in terms of software updates)?

Lenovo actually did a good job with the software on their 625 phones. Nice and snappy. Downside to the z play is the poor screen quality. The AMOLED panel used is just as bad in quality as the one used on the pixel. The back glass scratches easy due to the anti shatter coating (can be removed at painstaking effort and risk), the mods don't secure tight like on the Z, but other than that it's a very good device. Personally used my £30 code on very to get the G5S Plus for £230. Better build, nicer IPS screen, slight hit on battery but I don't need to get 8 hours SoT per day, 6-7 is fine. Downside is I have to use the old micro USB cables again

It runs near-stock Android, there's nothing wrong with the software, this wasn't a BB10 device.

The general consensus is that the Snapdragon 650 is much better being a performance hexa-core rather than a slower octa-core if using 600-series devices. To be honest I don't think I'd get an Android phone with much less than the latest SoC to ensure good performance, I've just seen them degrade over time too much.

I paid £89 on the Motorola web site. The data is faster on EE than Tesco (O2) so thats network, not internal processor capacity. It pairs with any BT car/device I use. It handles all my emails, calls, texts etc and works just fine for all those functions. The battery lasts around 2-3 days with light use and 1 with heavy use.BBC iPlayer works fine. I use Mapmyride/mapmywalk in the UK and Europe and it handles that without any hicoughs. I play music (Genesis/classical/BBC R4 podcasts) and the sound is good. I use Amazon to shop and Kindle to read books just fine. I have BBC sport loaded and have no complaints. Trainline works a treat and I but tickets using it. Kaspersky protects it and doesnt slow it.BUT MOST OF ALLIf I drop it, I dont give a monkey's vs owning a 200/300/500/800 phone that, frankly, does nothign extra for me.Conversely, my 17 year old doesn't want one because he doesn't have a life. He has a phone instead. What a bunch of presonality depleted ****s we have bred.

Cool story. Have you signed up to lifetime student writer course.

There's sooooooon much irony flying about in your one statement there, …There's sooooooon much irony flying about in your one statement there, hehehehe.Pre-2000, people complained that the then 1.5-2 inch screens on their phones were toooooo big!.2000 came, and people complained that the then 3-3.5 inch screens on their phones were toooooo small instead!.So the market made 'allowances', and surprise surprise, the 4-4.5+ inches phones suddenly exploded everyyyyywhere!.Everywhere such that 5-5.5 inches on a phone are pretty much standard now?And now people are crying for smaller?!, hahahahaha. What of those people rocking the 6+ inches phones currently out there in the market then?, what story should we tell them also?, hehehe.I'm typing this message to you now on my 'UK sourced (Network Three) Lenovo P2 as we speak, and am personally luvvvvvvvvv'ing the extra screen give that the 5.5 inch screen allows for (apart from all it's other bangs and whistles, etc). :-)I would definitely get another!.I've contemplated over the last few days the other Lenovo P2 'Chinese' variants coming forth on HUKD, from the likes of BangGood, GearBest, and the like ... as more initial internal space to begin with in addition to an added memory card (which I currently have a 32gb memory card in my 32gb Lenovo P2 anyway), would do me just dandy. :-)The original Lenovo P2 UK version has 2 SIM slots, of which could be utilised as just a 2 SIM phone, and that's it, OR 1 of those 2 SIM Slots could be utilised for a MicroSD card slot instead (+ 1 SIM card too of course?).But I'm not 100% sure as to IF these currently Chinese sourced Lenovo P2 phone's play it this same way also? (via the 2 SIM/1 SIM + 1 MicroSD combo?), as none of those original Posters over the last x-days have ever mentioned?.Anyways, that's my 2 Cents anyway?, lol. :-)Enjoy the rest of your morning + the rest of your day everyone. :-)

Bells and whistles dude, it doesn't have a hairdo!

Still installing my apps and getting ready to send my nexus 6p back to warranty. I'll decide what to do with the phone once the nexus came back. I like the phone so far and i reckon for 290 with the moto mods is an amazing deal. Worst case scenario i'll sell it on Gumtree/fleabay and get a oneplus.

Hi - yes mine arrived today by Fed EX -very very smart phone.........I ordered the POETIC CASE and also usbc adaptor to enable use of normal phone chargers - very impressed !!

Dave

Any one received theirs yet? Received email saying it had shipped last Tuesday with an estimated delivery of today. But the online tracker is still showing as order complete and not in transit.

Hi - shouldn't take too long - I ordered last Sunday - I did know they shipped from China as I ordered one last year for my gf - maybe the laser engraving of the name etc takes a little longer for order to ship as well.

I would imagine they will start arriving next week.

Dave

okay so I got the tracking info and they send from China! can't remember reading that anywhere. mine has been delayed until Tuesday

anyone's order arrived? Motorola tracking system is really poor. it said dispatched on Tuesday for Friday which is pretty strange but still no sign of it today?

The one from Motorola is the dual sim version though i believe.

Neither do I, I am totally stumped.

I think because people have the 2GB G5 O2 deal in their sights, and instinctively think that the G5 MUST be better than the G4 because it is a newer model. You can see it in the other G4 deal (Tesco Direct) with posts such as “only £10 more for G5”. Yet take a look at the specs and you can understand why the G4 is selling at pretty much the same price as the G5, and why the G5 is hardly an “upgraded” version of the G4, and is in some ways a downgrade (namely the screen and battery).
