Once Upon A Time in America is an amazing film. A must see

Brilliant film by Sergio Leone - at least equal, if not better, than The Godfather movies. A shame this iTunes version is 'just' the 229 mins version and not the restored 251 mins one (but at least it's not the 139 mins US abomination of a release).

Yup. Seems to be on ‘offer’ every week for a different price.
Another fairly poor selection from first glance.

Might get The Usual Suspects for £3.99 but not much else appeals. A fairly uninspiring selection of bundles too. Thanks as always for the effort of posting though. Hopefully something else gets added during the week.

Cheers for the tips. I’ll have a closer look through the list as I’m sure there are a few hidden gems I’d overlooked. I hadn’t spotted Big Trouble in Little China. I haven’t seen that in years so might get that one.

Really looking forward to Parasite (may buy on iTunes tonight actually), but I’m now worried with the Mother reference.
First half was interesting, second half was possibly the biggest load of garbage I’ve seen committed to film.
I’m sure there’s some deeper meaning to the whole thing (without giving any spoilers away), but if you have to go searching the internet for that meaning then the film missed it’s mark.

I get what you are saying with Mother but Parasite is far better towards the end and the better movie.

Cheers and appreciate the effort put into these lists, by the way
Interestingly Parasite doesn’t seem to be getting much fanfare on the iTunes app, considering it was released today. Not even showing on the main page - I had to search for it, but it is indeed out at £13.99 and £5.49 to rent.

Not sure if you have a US or Can iTunes account. Well worth getting. Parasite was 99c on the Canadian store to rent recently which is when I got it to watch. Already saw it at the cinema on release and loved it and was certainly worth another viewing

Once upon a time in America is one of my all-time favourites, extraordinary cinematography, great play by all leads and spectacular music score by the master that is Ennio Morricone.

Must be you, mate -

The film has since been ranked as one of the best films of the gangster genre. When Sight & Sound asked several UK critics in 2002 what their favorite films of the last 25 years were, Once Upon a Time in America placed at number 10.[41] In 2015, the film was ranked at number nine on Time Out's list of the 50 best gangster films of all time.[42] (en.wikipedia.org/wik…ica)

I preface this by saying that I love a lot of old films, but it is one of the critically lauded films that I really didn't like. It felt like such a slog to get to the end.

Can somebody please explain what is so great about it?

I’d agree, the film is a slog particularly the extended version. I’m not saying it’s not a good film, it’s a must see gangster epic but it is nowhere as rewatchable as other iconic movies from the genre. Definitely on the must see list but, for me just the once was enough.
Once Upon a Time in America is a great film but not quite Godfather 1 and 2 standard for me.

Be warned - you don't want to watch this with the family and I suspect our fairer halves wouldnt like it - call that sexist if you want but if you don't believe me, watch it...

My opinion only and obviously you disagree but the most important criterion for me is whether I have been moved by the film, followed by whether i can remember it (or at least some scenes), say, a few months later.
And, yes on both counts, I was moved and I can remember it vividly even though I watched it many years ago.
To me it is a film about coming of age, the strength of friendship, the price of betrayal, a gangster film, a love story. All of these themes are very well explored with both humour and sadness. I liked how we race into the future and then back in the past and once more in the future, etc. and this was very cleverly done accentuated by music and action.
As far as the music is concerned, to me this is possibly the best music score, so emotional and nostalgic.
My reasons for liking the film but, again, it is a question of opinion and everyone is entitled to theirs.
This is the best deal I’ve ever seen and none of these films have ever been on sky or Netflix to stream for free.

1. Amazing acting all round
2. A long drawn out story, really an epic, spanning such a long time from childhood to old age
3. Complex characters - Noodles the rapist but also Noodles the lover
4. Amazing, amazing music by Morricone - sweeping, beautifully evocative orchestral themes
5. A lot of details to mull over - e.g. the ringing of the phone at the beginning - was the whole thing a hallucination?

Same for me. Saw a comment recently when other user was refunded even though they’d started watching something they bought. Thought that was excellent cs they didn’t have to do. I understand not refunding for things if you’re asking regularly and there is a limit, but I’m sure that would get reset. Probably to stop people abusing the system. Not sure about ‘distance selling regulations’ for digital media. Might be different to physical purchases

Apart from the two rape scenes and it being too long.

Why even ask for a refund?
Provided you’ve not actually watched it within 14 days you just go to the report a problem page and select you wish to cancel the purchase and it auto refunds.
Noticed hollow man is on offer does anybody know if its the directors cut?
