Found 26th Jan 2014
A free open source Movie Manager for your large collection of Movies and TV series. For any one looking for a free Movie Organizer, this is one alternative.

Create a list or database of your movie collection easily and add all the info, image, etc from Imdb.com easily (as you would do with Calibre for books )

MeD's Movie Manager is a simple to use, yet customizable, movie manager. Info is automatically retrieved from IMDb and tv.com.

Technical info can also be retrieved from media files like AVI, DVD (ifo). It's written in Java and should therefore run on most desktop systems supporting Java.

It is not a perfect software but should do the business if you are not looking to pay for a Movie Organizer.

Hi, I like the concept of this so am wondering why it's been voted down to -18% after an hour. Is there an obviously better program that we should all know about? Or is this one seriously flawed? Thoughts appreciated. Thanks.

Looks good enough to me. Voted hot.

I guess most guys don't need a software for this or have a paid one.:)
I have tried a trial of 'All My Movies' which is a paid software and that is pretty good. But not keen on $39.95 for that !

It looks like it's warming up a bit now so maybe it was just one of those mysterious hotdeals blips for no particular reason. I'll hold off for a day or two before downloading in case someone wants to jump in and set us all straight.

Been after something like this for a while

Anyone used it
Love to hear feedback

Doesn't plex do this??

Thanks for that.Hadn't heard of Plex ! Whats your experience and whats the difference between free version and premium version of Plex? Cheers.

Just use XBMC.

XBMC + Trakt.tv plugin. Soundjob

I use this mediacentermaster.com/ and media companion. Both really good at what they do.

Similar Plex + Trakt.tv plugin works great for me.
I use trakt, as like to see where I am in a series and like the reminder my favourite programs are on again as never look at tv guides.

But not really got Trakt.tv working with my movies although think it knows now what have got.

ember media manager does it for me, but may have a lil play with this, cheers op

I don't understand the need for this type of software? I just put all my films on my external hard drive. When I want to watch a film I just search for it. IMDB has any answers to questions I may have. I'm not saying it isn't useful and have voted hot for its usefulness. Is there something I'm missing?

It all depends how you want to present your media to yourself and others. I prefer to have the poster, cast, trailer and other related info in my media center. Also its useful for showing people what you have should they want to "loan" a film

I'm a bit of a novice in all this but I've got films, TV programmes etc. spanning a couple of hard discs and I also don't always remember the title of what I'm looking for. So ideally, if I ever get round to doing it properly, it would be useful to have detail about each programme beyond just the title so I can search by director, subject etc.

I'm grateful to all the ideas in this thread as it's the sort of project which I don't really want to have to do twice, so want to get it as right as possible first time so it can be easily expandable.

My experience with Plex is that its really good, especially the streaming aspect. The Plex desktop server software is free, the premium account gives you access to earlier builds and mobile apps (Win8, ROKU, iOS, etc) are paid for individually.

I'm using it on my tablet and phone and the streaming quality from my PC is really good.
