This looks like a really nice small sofa from M&S, renowned for its quality furniture. The Alfie comes in three sizes, but this small one is £349 in the sale, down from £700 — 50% off is a fine discount I'm sure you'll agree.

One thing to note is that delivery times are somewhat skewed, and this can be expected at around 10 weeks after purchase.

"A brilliant choice for more compact spaces, our small sofa will add a contemporary air to any room. Made in Great Britain to a high standard, the stylish shape of this piece showcases a minimalistic and modern design for a chic flourish."

  • Width: 165 cm
  • Depth: 90 cm

is it though really?, i mean, I can't personally see me paying £700 for a small plastic covered sofa ever, and struggle to believe anyone else would.
can't imagine sitting on plastic in this heat either....

m and s bring 2 ranges out every summer and at the start of the year to go 50% they are always in limited fabric options due to this to make it look like a legit deal, when in fact, its awful quality. happy to help

edit: oh look, more 50% sofas on website which bizarely have the same names as previous 50% sofas... and arent in the main catalogue because they are brought out specifically to go striaght on 'offer' because the original price is massively inflated

this is not a legit deal though so i am helping people avoid dissapointment. check history of m and s offers on these sofas. they do it twice every year and its the same sofas, same limited fabrics pretending to be half price when they were brought in just for that

Not to everyone's taste....but if it floats your boat, go for it. Should be well made and quite robust from M&S tbh. If it was real leather or split hide etc it would be far dearer

I had a look, it is £1100 with real leather.
£350 for a plastic sofa too short for anyone taller than 5' to lie down on. I'm out.

You couldn't be more wrong - that was a very helpful post that helps inform a potential buyer. If people are aware that the RRP should be discounted and still decide to purchase, that is their decision - jamrocker has just helped to facilitate a more informed decision,
That seems expensive to me for faux leather!
If you've worked in the lower echelons of retail management (not recommended) then you will agree on the genuine psychological piffle-paffle that is put upon customers every day. Yes, I'm sure some will love this, but the man's comments above are correct. Relative value is in the eye of the beholder, and M and S amongst others put a lot into ensuring you look like you've got a deal, when, to the sane, you have not. No disrespect to the offer, but I can remember some very dubious 'sales', which were anything but, etc, etc. This all started in the early 90,s, when we were in recession. The psychological manipulation and smoke and mirrors gets more deceiving each year. Here speaks a man who did 15 years in retail and at very different levels.

I've noticed that with their clothing line, so have no doubt that they do it in other areas too.

Great, can you recommend a better sofa that costs £349 delivered?

at the price point i have no idea im not looking for them. my point is that this is a 'fake' deal. you go into store, compare this to another that is genuinely priced around £700, see the difference and come back to me.

Unfortunately, this and similar other tactics, are widespread in retail.
Wipe clean? And brown? Gotta be good points for someone?

I wouldn’t even give an Argos sofa to my dog to sleep on, they are the second worst quality of sofa I’ve ever had.

I’ve had Next sofas, which were supposed to be good, and had a massive guarantee, they were awful too, they had to come and fix it loads of times, swapped for a whole new set, and had to come and keep fixing that too. Engineer said they were cheaply made rubbish.

DFS were the worst. I don’t think that’s any secret though.

I’ve had an M&S one and it was good quality, comfy and lasted well. Best I’ve had are IKEA, but a decent one costs more than this.

Yeah, who actually looks at “RRPs” though? A decently made sofa delivered for £349 is pretty good, regardless of whether it’s “normally” £400 or £5,000.

Still have the IKEA leather sofa i bought 25 years ago in a sale for £150. When it was delivered i found a small nick at the bottom on the back. Called them and they refunded £100.

i've only seen a couple from argos and a mixed bag one v good, one v bad.
ikea do a few about this price so a definite possibility depending on taste etc.
think you do seem to be missing the point though, this is not a "deal" and am unsure why you are defending this piece of plastic tat that no one would really pay £700 for and my post was really objecting to that
ofc you may just be in to people telling you lies to try and get your hard earned cash...
Well the filling is described as 'Everyday (standard)'. You'd think they'd tell you what that is!

Anyone using HotUKDeals, surely? Items put on here have a title, then immediately underneath is the deal price, followed by the RRP and the percentage saving between the two, no?

It is technically the next best price in the box on the right, not the RRP.

No, they have a “next best price”, but anyone with any common sense looks at the product and the price, and decides themselves if it is good value or not.

That’s why we have voting. If it was just “biggest discount gets hottest”, there would be no voting, it would be automatic.

Again, the “RRP” means nothing. I paid no attention to it, and am not sure why anyone does.

I’m looking at a faux-leather sofa, from a good retailer that supplies good quality sofas, for £349 delivered. I think it’s probably a good buy if you like the style.

Yeah, best sofa’s I’ve had by a mile. I sold my last one when I moved house. I’m currently saving up for a new IKEA sofa and chair set. They just last.

Thanks, thats useful to know.
I was thinking of getting the medium one where does it say it is "faux leather" ??
