M&S Atlantic Raw Scallops 400g - 2 packs for £10 (£8 each) INSTORE offer

Found 3rd Feb 2014
At Marks & Spencer, 400g packs of frozen Wild Atlantic/Canadian Raw Scallops are on offer @ 2 packs for £10. They are the larger scallops, not the tiny ones. Great offer as each 400g pack is £8.00.

I know this offer won't appeal to everyone, but if you like them if's a good deal. (Other supermarkets packs are usually 200g and cost about £4 - £5). As they are an expensive item I only buy them when on offer!

Also included in the '2 for £10' offer are various packs of prawns: Extra large Greenland 400g, Honduran King prawns (not sure of weight), Fruits de Mer and other packs of fish. The prawns & fish items range between £5 and £6 each, so not much of a saving.

Not sure how long this offer runs for - didn't have my reading glasses to read the minute print!
UPDATE 14th FEB. - Offer runs until 2nd March, according to the red shelf-edge label.

I'm by no means a tree hugger but certain things, when they destroy the planet for sheer greed hack me off.
These Scallop dredges just rape the seabed.
Sorry for the rant
Atlantic Scallops Fishery Facts
Latin Name Placopecten magellanicus
Fishing Method Scallop dredges (dragging heavy nets along the sandy seafloor) and bottom trawl.
Region of Harvest Sea scallops are harvested in the northwest Atlantic ocean from the northern shores of the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Newfoundland to the U.S. coast of North Carolina.
1. Sea scallops are usually caught by dredging which causes severe damage to the seafloor habitats and species.

2. Endangered sea turtles are caught accidentally and usually thrown back dead or dying in this fishery.

3. Over 100 non-target species have been accidentally caught in the inshore scallop fishery. Bycatch of finfish (such as yellowtail flounder, skates, and monkfish) and undersized scallops are also of concern in this fishery.
Biology
Scallops can live to be over 20 years old, reaching maturity at around two years.
The largest observed sea scallop had a shell height of 23 centimetres but they are usually smaller than 17 centimetres.
Scallops feed on microscopic species called phytoplankton and microzooplankton that they filter out of the water.
Fish such as cod, flounder, crabs, lobster and sea stars feed on young and adult scallops

Just as well my local M&S have run out then.

Very tasty though, hot from me

Frozen scallops are terrible,,
buy them fresh down your local fish market
they are 100 times better, remove the orange egg sack,
and white membrane, flash fry in butter for a few minutes,
10 fresh ones cost me £ 3.50 at the fish market,
frozen scallops " are a no no " yuck.....

Just had some for my dinner and they were delicious. Didn't shrink when defrosted or when cooked, unlike some I've had in the past. That said, I do like fresh scallops too

You're welcome!
I pan-fried mine for a few minutes until just done - hopefully they will be just as good in a fish pie (although longer cooking may produce different results). Hope you enjoy them.

Picked up a couple packs with my M&S bespoke vouchers. Thanks.

Hi, I got them at both the Heswall and Birkenhead stores. Judging by the shelf edge labels I think it's a nationwide deal.
Had more of them for dinner tonight - delicious!
