Sadly I had to go to a funeral last week. I thought I'd better do the decent thing and go and pick up a black suit for the occasion. I don't normally wear suits and was really surprised at how expensive they were! £125 seems to be 'the normal' price point.

Then I just happened to stumble on these £49.50 suits (that's for both the jacket and the trousers) from the M&S Extra Value range. These may sound like cheapo rubbish but I can assure you they aren't. It fitted well, it was comfortable and the material wasn't scratchy. The wife even said I looked very smart! There are several style to choose from and they even do formal evening suits.

If like me you just want an inexpensive suit that you might just wear every once in a while, this might be what you've been looking for.

Well, to be honest, she would do if you never wear a suit. But these are pretty good for £50 Indonesia.

These are fantastic suits for the money. I now have 5 suits for what i would pay for 1 so it's hot hot hot from me

How do you know that its really good quality if you never wear suits?

Cheap isn't a deal.

has anyone heard of Armani???? :P

Or £25ish from most supermarkets. The M&S one may (or may not) be better but if it's only for a single event......

they've always been this price?

well i needed a suit will be off to get 1. cheers mate

These have been around a while but they do change the item numbers every so often but keep the prices the same.

I had to buy a dinner jacket for a black tie do. The £49.50 one (with trousers) did very nicely. Less than the cost of hiring one!

these are ok for the winter but I wouldn't wear them in the summer given the choice. they're blatantly not great suits, but they look ok adn what do you expect for £50? (or semi-regularly 2 for £80, or even less at sale time...)

if you wear these often, good idea to get a second pair of trousers. as mentioned, they change the item numbers from time to time - when the material changes it seems. so it's sometimes hard to get exactly the same colour trousers later.

i bought 2 of these not so long ago when they had a promotion of buy 1 pair of trousers get a 2nd pair free. 2 suits with extra trousers came to just over £100, but i wasn't happy with the fit or quality so took it all back.

With all the negative responses to these cheap suits I am glad I can wear a hoodie and jeans for work. Don't think I could afford an expensive suit and have it dry cleaned all the time.

Its alright if you want to wear them out for a night on the town, who wants to get kebab and beer down their expensive suit, hot

Cold cause Matalan have the suit, shirt, tie and shoes for £50 all in.

Wish I'd gone to Matalan now!

Looked for this wonder deal on the Matalan web site but I can't find it. Typically its £33 for a jacket and £20 for trousers so it's a worse deal than the M&S deal. Have you got a link to this Matalan all-in for £50 deal?

Personally I'd advise sticking to the MS cheapo suits over the slightly cheaper others - these are at least wearable

What's the material like on the M&S suit? Shiny plastic?

Had a Matalan suit... ironed the trousers (on a medium heat) and they melted oops

It was in there booklet which came through the post 2 days ago. Not sure if it is online, but if you've looked i guess not! Might be worth calling your local store as it may be instore only.

Hey, do these suits look like shiny polyester or do they look like a more expensive suit?
