So you won't be able to order these on-line? If not that's a shame, not always easy to get into town early when you are working - and no doubt these go quick.

Fab deal if you can get it!
If you do get them, do they taste as nice if you freeze them? I'm thinking Xmas lunch for those of us who dont like Turkey..

yeh these fly off the shelves, m&s never get enough in.

are they freerange or battery chickens?

If it doesn't specifically say Free Range then it will be these:

"Oakham™ chickens are reared in controlled environment barns. The birds are housed on straw or wood shavings and have constant access to food and water. The temperature and lighting levels inside the barn are controlled by the farmer."

Don't know if you saw the recent TV series about food, but Oakham is infact a made up name by M&S - there is no such thing as an Oakham chicken (hence the ™ in the name) or farm.

I think this £2 campaign is to try and raise M&S street cred after a TV programme brought to light that there are no chickens raised in Oakham, its just a trade mark.

These are still battery raised chickens, which have slightly more room than basic battery ones(RSPCA Freedom food) I think its called.

Hi, this is not the bargin that you may be lead to believe!! I went in last time and the lovely oakham chickens were "From £2" This meant that they actually are 50% off. There was about 3 M&S Employees "guarding" the chickens and explaining to everyone who touched a chicken that the deal was not "£2 a chicken" but in fact "from" £2 a chicken. The chickens come in 3 sizes, Small (serves 2) Medium (serves 2-4) or Large (serves 4-6). Still a bargin and bought 2 and they were lovely.x

Hence the part on that say's Prices starting from £2!

OK the deal is half marked price.
Last time included Free range and Oakham (which is the brand name never intended to make you think they come from Oakham) and roasterie chickens.
M&S use these promotions as a loss leader - it gets you into the store like the champagne offer this week. Look out for a deal like this every week up to Christmas.

One further note on the Oakham name - M&S have always stated on the label the farmers name and the county in which the chickens are bred. Something that TV programme never mentioned.
