Amazon is taking off the headset discount of £250 without buying a headset. (you are possibly supposed to buy a VR headset at the same time to save £250)

When you get to the cart the laptop is reduced.

Whilst undoubtedly a deal, please do read up on user experiences of both the SP and SB. I ignored the gripes of real users and ordered a top spec surface pro. I returned it at the end of the 30 day period.

It's a great concept that probably needs another gen or two to be tweaked.

This is the Book 2 right? A lot of the issues with the first Book have been resolved for this one (hinges etc) and even though it's technically a detachable, it's class leading in terms of performance even as a laptop - the GPU also makes it probably the best ultrathin gaming machine around.

Doesn't match the premium price point for me. It's fine for web browsing, handling documents, etc - but simple things like full screen video are a task due to the resolution of the screen, everything becomes a bit clunky and chugs a lot the second you full screen a youtube/netflix video (even in the dedicated app).

If you're using it just for web browsing and document work then you can get a better laptop for a lot less. SImilarly, this SB is the 1050 dedicated GPU model - Plenty of better specced laptops for gaming/video editing for less than this.

You are definitely paying for the form factor and they are lovely looking machines, just they don't quite meet my expecation of it yet. I will definitely be monitoring new models though as like I said, love the concept.

Love my Surface Pro 4 (i5, 4GB/128GB), wouldn't be without it and hope when it eventually packs up to get another one as it's a real game changer in portable computing for me. Couldn't go back to a PC laptop or MacBook now.

Can you get these with a 1060 or higher?

Nope, and 1050 with 2gb is probably not going to take you too far. It'll do for the average gamer though.

I did love it for browsing and working on office docs. But i couldn't keep a £2k machine for just that, though I reckon the £900 i5 would've met this requirement just fine.

I do 1080P video editing on mine, aside from the lack of storage for that, the i5 does the trick. £699 this time last year in Argos (with pen, paid £89 extra for the type cover).

Pure gamers wouldn't buy something like this full stop, but as a performance ultraslim then the 1050 is about as good as you'll get. This is a 1.5kg device... lighter than most non-GPU laptops.

Definitely.

I feel like I have made some people think I hate the device - I really don't at all! It just doesn't work for me yet.

Only if you want to melt a hole in the casing.
Voted hot because it was on 99 degrees. Could have gone either way

Yep playable, you will have to play in a much lower resolution than native though, probably to 1080p. And you probably will have to lower the detail.

But you should get playable frames (30) with some tweaking.

Not a gaming machine, the recharge will let you down, when playing games the battery will drain even when charging

That's true, but I've read only about 5-8% per hour on intensive games at higher settings? I guess the problem there is trying to game with a device that isn't fully charged and then suffering heavy throttling once the battery saver kicks in.

Fact is that it's a capable gaming machine, but that anyone buying a laptop mostly for gaming probably wouldn't buy this in the first place - they'd get a heavier but dedicated laptop with a 1060 or above.

Not too worried about that really. I need a new laptop and this should last a couple years. Don't mind paying for quality and exactly what I need. Don't really want to lug around anything bigger.
Thanks again!

Not sure what you bought but mine are superb, I've specced them for work rollout too so ordered 2,000 units.

It’s 10% off every few weeks and quidco or tcb it’s still a bit much in my opionion although it’s very nice
Just use the code above at checkout although my quidco didn’t track for the full amount il see what happens
For me the price tag and lacking thunderbolt is a massive NO.

For that price you can get a decent YOGA or Spectre 360 and an External thunderbolt GPU
Do Amazon not have the 15inch model?

Which eGPU dock and specific machine would you recommend?

Looks like they are out of stock on all 15inch variants

eGPU I would recomend Gigabyte AORUS GTX 1070 Gaming Box Portable Graphics Card. It cost under 600 including a GTX 1070 (now £ 569.98 at ebuyer).

For laptops Lenovo offer decen quality-price. Lenovo has offers now for the Lenovo Yoga 720 that has thunderbolt 3, there is a model with a i7 for £850 for example.

Still lower price than Surface and you get much better spects (including a full size GTX1070 vs a mobile capped 1050).
