Seems a good price for a after market R9 290x. This is meant to compete with the Gtx 780TI but is cheaper then the standard Gtx 780. With a after market cooler there is a difference now between the R9 290 and the 290X before with the reference cooler the 290x would throttle.

Comes with the Amd never settle so can claim 3x free games.

Pity AMD is behind the times on both GPU and CPU speeds. The 290X is quite a bit slower than both the GTX780Ti and GTX780. This is based on Passmark.

At this point in time, I would opt for the 290 as its only £289 still with 3 games, and you only lose a little bit of performance.

Passmark means nothing to a gamer as how in the earth is a R9 295X2 scoring less then a Gtx 780 its made for Nvidia Cards. The R9 290x is ahead of the Gtx 780 and not that far behind the Gtx 780 ti.

I already own a MSi R9 290 Gaming and going by the reviews and benchmarks this would still beat my overclocked card.

You can bash Passmark, but it is a quick and dirty guideline that should be followed up by more in depth review.

These are real life game results from tomshardware labs testing on the various cards. Gigabyte 780 and 780Ti, MSI 290X and HIS 290. The 780Ti comes out on top of nearly all their tested with a few exceptions like Battlefield 4. The 290X is more on par with the 780 than the Ti version.

780ti 290x 290 780
Thief 1080p Very High Preset(1920 x 1080) 83.10 70.30 67.80 68.70
Bioshock Infinite 1080pUltra Preset(1920 x 1080) 129.50 96.29 91.50 109.50
Battlefield 4 2160pMedium Preset(3840 x 2160) 70.00 72.10 66.20 58.50
FarCry 3 2160pMedium Preset(no AA, 3840 x 2160) 66.70 60.00 57.20 57.60
Unigine Heaven 2160p, DX 11(Tessellation , no AA, 3840 x 2160) 37.50 31.50 28.80 32.50
12 Tomb Raider 1080pUltimate Preset(1920 x 1080) 161.50 140.00 131.20 131.40

So I still stand by the view that the 780Ti is ahead on most games in both QXGA and 1080p.

But you will always get the people who like AMD and those who like nVidia, just like you will always get the Intel vs AMD CPU discussions. I am not biased one way or another, I use crossfire in my main gaming rig and single nVidia n my 2nd gaming machine. I usually buy the best value at the time.

This is a really good price for the 290x, and as such I voted hot.

Your trolling attempt is weak londonstinks because it is obvious you did not read my post.

I said I actually use AMD in my main machine. I also said that was a good deal for the item in question and voted hot. I also posted a link to a very reputable site that does in-depth testing with hard evidence and no bias. Also I do not need to use capitals to try and get my points across. It actually makes you look like a 'AMD FANBOY' as you quaintly put it.

So an open and shut case your honour, I rest my case. Now please don't go off topic londonstinks, and if you disagree and think that the 290x spanks a 780Ti, post some hard evidence.

it is true that the 780ti is the better card but you seem to not specify that the price for a 780ti would be nowhere near this price thus is it worth an extra 200 pounds for a neglible performance increase?

Your correct, I didn't specify prices, one way or the other. But I did say I look for the best value. And I said this was a good price.
