It's not even really an issue using a Ryzen 3000 series CPU with the non-MAX boards, so long as you have a way of downloading the newest BIOS and sticking it on a USB drive, in order to use the BIOS flash tool.
so whats the difference between this and the Tomahawk max

They are NEARLY the same. Tomahawk is ATX and Mortar is Micro ATX, so depends on your case. Some prefer Mortar MAX as it has USB C but can run a little warmer with fast CPU's or overclocking. I have never had issues with Mortar. The MAX in any of them simply means they come ready for 3000 series Ryzens out of the box, ready to go. So both support newest CPU's. Tomahawk in theory would run cooler, but won't fit in a Micro ATX Case, Mortar will fit in nearly any case as it is smaller physically. Hope this helps you? In reality, get whichever is cheapest, they are both very good boards....

Tomahawk only has 1 m.2 slot as well I believe. This has 2, a PCIe and SATA. If you want to use the SATA one, it’ll disable SATA ports 3&4. So you can attach 1 m.2 drive with 4 SATA drives, or 2 m.2 drives with 2 SATA drives.
Backup to £89.95
