This is the MAX version... Supports 3rd gen Ryzen out if the box, yay!
One of my favourite brands, but due to the PCIE slots arrangement and poor VRMs on this model I would tend to side with this ASRock board: amazon.co.uk/dp/…V2Z

Not a Max board and no USB BIOS flashing so you'll need an older CPU to update it for Zen 2.

Max branding is an MSI branding thing to show that it’s one of their revised boards that no longer has a gimped bios. The ASRock board is zen 2 out of the box.

They're not advertising as Zen 2 ready. Made more sense to release a none gimped board with a slightly different name, for clarity.

I bought two of these around September of last year. One was from CCL, the other from Amazon and both had the updated ‘Ryzen 3000 Ready’ on the front of the box. I do agree with the ‘clarity’ thing which other manufacturers could certainly learn from, but on this occasion MSI really had to do that due to their own cock up.
Bios semantics aside, is this a good mobo ?
Looking to build around a 2600.... or 3400 (can't decide between a 3400 or 2600 plus cheap gpu as don't play games - advice please)TIA

For anything up to a 3800x this will be perfectly adequate, even when overclocking.

Going by the VRM Guide, docs.google.com/spr…rue I would prefer the ASRock. The F variant (I don’t know how it differs) is £61.99 from CCL cclonline.com/pro…34/ which has better VRMs and an additional m.2. Slot (SATA).

Board is ok for a cheap build but there are even cheaper boards. If you're not playing games then are you just doing web browsing and 'general PC stuff', no (or only occasional) productivity work, and not bothered about upgrading in the future..? As @Em-Pop pointed out you'd probably want to consider other boards if you plan to put a beefy CPU in at a later date. There are various public spreadsheet docs on google with info about boards' VRMs etc.

If the cheap route then also note the 3200G is a good bit cheaper than either the 3400G or 2600, or I can sell you a Pentium G4560 for very cheap; or consider a refurbed desktop - cheap as chips and perfectly capable of web and general use e.g. I'm typing this on one of my work PCs, a Pentium G620 from 2011, and it doesn't even have an SSD (yet)

Beat me to it! I was just going to check out some VRM docs for the poster with the question
VRM?

Currently using a 10 year old desktop, and as I've been Jerry rigging w7 for years, decided to upgrade - more so now I bought 16gb ram in an amazon deal
still unsure if a 2600 with cheap gpu would be preferable to say, 3400 with integrated ?
Only for general use, no gaming... maybe some video conversation or photo editing.
Looking to get this with a Ryzen 5 3400G and use the integrated graphics to replace a 10 year+ old build for cheap. I already have an SSD, RAM and Case. Anyone recommend a PSU?
Whats the difference between this MB and the below? Would you rather go for this and save £25? hotukdeals.com/dea…009

I'm in the same position and would like to know this too. Any thoughts? Cheers.
