I remember a couple of years back, I was going to buy a 6gb 1060 for just over £200.
But I thought £200?, naaah, the price will drop and so I took the family to Alton Towers instead.

FML.
Please only buy graphics cards and RAM if you really need to ATM. We shouldn't be encouraging retailers to take advantage of the shortages with huge price hikes. This isn't a discount at all, just less of a rip off.

If they lower their price then miners will buy the cards. It's not that they are taking advantage, it's that the markets are forcing it to be this way. If we found out that 30% of the supply was being held back so they could drive up the price then your argument would be more valid.

The sad truth is that mining most cryptocurrencies is not profitable unless you live somewhere with really cheap electricity, but due to many of the extreme media coverage of how profitable it is many people are dumping cash to mine. I wonder how many parents in the UK are wondering why their electric bills have gone up by £500 a year while little Timmy sits back and enjoys his £36 share of bitcoin he mined this year..

I "Need" a card like this, but refuse to pay such a price for what should now be a mid/entry level gaming card. Until we see BTC drop to around $2,000 then there might not be a huge drop in video cards. The upshot behind all of this is that in about two years time the second hand market should be flooded with 1060, 1070, and 1080 cards, so I'll be putting a 16 card virtual box server in the loft then :P....

Where from?
You could potentially buy this and send it unopened for a refund to wherever you bought yours from?

You know each card has it's own serial that is recorded by the seller right? I'd hate to see your feedback on ebay

Why would they do that?
Genuinely curious.
Good price. I think we will be seeing some good more reductions soon. I am quite tempted but think I will wait and hopefully get a better deal.

For warranty purposes of course, otherwise everyone would just swapping mining cards that have been bought off ebay with no warranty after a week under the pretext that it went faulty.

Haaaaa. I'm not too fussed to be honest and even if I did end up waiting I'd probably get a better card in the end anyway. Also I would rather order from amazon if I'm honest, less hassle if anything goes wrong!

Bought a 1080 for £400something over a year ago.
Broke a fan. Insurance paid out £630 today, minus £25 excess.

I haven't even been gaming that much, I've only really been playing Cities Skylines and FIFA which didn't max the 1080 anyway. I can't bring myself to part with the £600+ for a new 1080. Struggling to part with £270 for a 1060. I sold my old 970 for less than that.
STILL OVERPRICED But I suppose if you have to buy this is as good as it gets - will drop more since the crypto crash

There wasn't one, except this is why your house contents premiums are so high
Hard to think I paid £275 for a 980ti isn't it around 6 months ago.
This or
Sapphire Radeon RX 580 NITRO+ Special Edition 8 GB GDDR5 for £299 ????????

Pretty reasonable price. Current climate makes my 299 1070 feel like an even better deal last year.

Yep Amazon have started doing that now too, got a monitor from them and the serial number is marked in the order.

There is an element of they have to charge more to supply.
If you ran a business. In normal times you can sell 100 items with £50 profit. If during hard times there are only 30 items available. Would you be happy with £1,500 profit from 30 items or would you bump the price up to compensate?
Also if prices weren’t inflated miners would buy every last one. The only reason they don’t if profitability.
I feel your pain but it’s reality and not exclusive to Graphics cards. RAM is similar but not miners faults.

3gb but likely to go for under £200

Good price at the moment though for a mid range card.

Simple supply and demand, cost of living in a capitalist market, don’t like it, move to Russia.
This wouldn't be that great a deal on release, let alone years down the line.

Microsoft timed the X perfectly. I'm guessing the only reason MS haven't opened it up to mining is they don't make much,if anything, on every console sold, and miners won't buy games or gold.
Nice to see the price coming down a little, if you want a gpu that isn't overpriced right now get the gtx 1050

God I wish!
Looking at the camelcamelcamel charts of all these cards starting at what looks like now, reasonable prices, and all of them in the last few months have increased. Some cards are 2 years old and increasing.

I'll stick to my Nvidia 770 until this whole thing blows over.
HAHAHAHA £270 for a 1060 how is this regarded a good deal?...still way over the RRP. I paid only £40 for my 1070 (before the prices got stupid)

No pain from me. I built my rig this time last year (7700k, 16gb GSkill trident RGB, 1080ti, custom water cooled)

I just hate that people are being ripped off. The only people that benefit are retailers.

If they don't profit as much from selling 10 Vs 100 cards, then I guess they need to diversify instead of passing their problems onto consumers.
