  • 15.6" HD, Anti-Glare (1366*768)

Not FHD screen, pretty horrid to do assignments or the like on as you can't use windows snap effectively.

  • Skylake i5-6300HQ

2 generations old now (not the biggest issue in the world but says a lot about this having been hanging around for a while)

  • DDR IV 8GB, up to 2133mhz

Not a great deal of RAM but acceptable for most people. No indication if it's 2x4 or 1x8 configuration which I'd consider important if you plan to upgrade later.
  • nVidia GeForce 940MX, 2GB DDR3

notebookcheck.net/NVI…tml

I believe this machine has the GDDR3 model from what I can find online so it's only very slightly faster than what's already built in on the processor. With that in mind for this sort of money I'd be looking towards getting a 7th gen machine which isn't going to be much different in respect of the performance but all to the benefit of the battery life.

Thanks for the post Astec123.

The description of the processor under features says" Latest 6th Gen. Intel® Core™ i7 processor" so its all a bit confusing as to what it has.

Normal laptop with a below average gpu
Do fine for light gaming and uni work. Heat given as it's the cheapest price I've seen for this laptop.
In no way can this be described as a gaming laptop. It has less than the minimum in every department.

1. It is a budget laptop with at a mid range price.

2. Well overpriced for what you get. Stay clear of this.

3. If you want a laptop to do work there are better for cheaper and you will not be working well with a dreadful screen resolution.

4. If you want a laptop where you can play occasional games then look elsewhere also you will be very restricted on what you can play.

tbh its pretty specs for the money. as other people said it shouldnt be called a gaming laptop. doesnt have a 1080p display and has a poor graphics card from the previous generation of nvidias. I'd rather buy used. I sold my 2016 alienware for a bit more money with a 980, 16gb of ram and an i7. theres some non "gaming" which will out perform this for a similar price i'm sure
dont waste your money, you cannot play new games with nVidia GeForce 940MX ,get desktop pc on this price with better graphic card,
940mx hahahaha
940mx is fairly lame for gaming even at 1366 x768, hard to get 30 FPS on modern games
This is just horrible.

I don't see a single alternative proffered by any of them.
Do you?
Happens in most computer threads.
If you want a gaming laptop you want the latest Nvidia 10 series , 1080p screen ... I'm sure you could find something cheap enough - I shall look.

Seems the cheapest 1050 based laptop is probably the updated version of this MSI for about £699, So £150 more for a better screen and a way faster GPU.

The difference would be huge though as the Nivdia 1050 GPU is in a completly different class.

I'm using this laptop at the moment. Have had it for a year and use it for browsing, typing and some gaming too. The games I have installed and run (without issue) include Tomb Raider (2013), Saints Row 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Portal 2, Binary Domain, Civilization V.... Basically, any 2010-2013 games (late 360/PS3) will be fine but wouldn't throw something more modern at it.
I have had a similar specced laptop before, tried the latest resident evil, it was pretty terrible frame rate even on the lowest settings, witcher 3 was pretty awful too....

Just watch some 940mx gaming benchmarks on YouTube..
Actually the graphics card is probably ok at HD resolution and if it's for uni work then a separate 21-24" FHD monitor wouldn't be a bad idea. I suppose it's a 'gaming laptop' in the traditional sense of having a discrete GPU, decent CPU (2 generations old but at least it's a quad core and performance hasn't changed much since 2012 Sandy Bridge)and flashy lights and design but it's at the lower end of the gaming spectrum for sure.
yup, 940mx is pretty terrible by todays standards
Looks like Ubuntu will sit on this quite well. Which means none of my personal data will be send to the USA

why will you use your that laptop on a train and how,?it is a laptop and it will drain battery, get tablet pc instead if you will use on train or garden, i have alien ware m18 with 780m sli ,and i have never use in train or garden or airplane...,even my pc is nearly 5 years old so much better specications and has better graphic card than 940 mx,i can play new games with gtx 780 sli 4K medium setting as well,my advice is put £1000 more get for £1500 average laptop that you can play game high setting on 1080p, but not 4K

That is a somewhat cool story, brother.
