Excellent price. Thanks
This is a steal
Oh that's really good. Happy Christmas for some system builder somewhere
wish they would do a bundle with cpu and ram haven't got patience checking compatability
Feeling Wen u don't need a MB and u got this offer
Grab a cheap or 2nd 6th gen i5 and decent heat sink, then crank it up to 4.5ghz.

Putting a system together probably isn't for you then. Maybe look at dell.co.uk ?

legend old age and that black and red website was screwing with my brain
Have it!
Great price, but does a Z170 motherboard still make sense?

Coffee Lake (8600K) processors need a Z370, are not much more expensive than the old gen (7600K, 6600K) and have 6 instead of 4 cores. Well, you probably save about £70 building a 7600K system vs. a 8600K system, so it may make sense for some. I personally don't need more than 4 cores at home.
Cheap as chips.

Depends if you're doing a completely new build or not, and what CPUs you can get for the money.

I bought a 6600K a year ago because the price difference between the 6600 and 6600K was negative at the time (excluding HSF cost). I was on a budget and slapped it in a H110 board. This will hopefully let me squeeze noticably more performance out of my system for very little money.

The H110 will have a second hand or otherwise cheap Skylake era (Pentium with HT maybe) chip popped in to be resold as a bundle upgrade to a likewise cheapskate client. It's the ciiiiirrrrrcle of liiiife.

You are pretty much spot on. Building a 6600k/7600k system doesn't make much sense.

The i3 8100 has 4 cores and rivals any of the 6600k or below chips. The 8350k beats the 7600k and below...

While the 8400, 6 core chip, starts to put the screws to the 7700k and below (the 7700k may be slightly better while OC'd, but hey, the cost....).

Anyway, point is... The 8xxx series has given each of the price points 2 extra cores for virtually the same price.
Motherboard prices are in the ().

8100 costs 100 (190)
8350k costs 150 (240)
8400 costs 195 (285)
8600k costs 243 (333)
8700k costs 350 (440)

The cheapest mobo is running around 90 and is the full feature z370 design.

Similar priced CPUs (considering you save 40 quid on a mobo)

7700k compares to the 8600k or the 8400k (in between) at 265 (315)
7600k compares to the 8350k 185 (235)
7500 compares to the 8100 at 161 (211)

Unless you are going for a really strong budget build... G4560 65 (115)

No price point is favorable for the older models, except the 115 quid price point where only the G4560 exists...

Unless you need *JUST* a z170 motherboard and not a CPU... Or you have a cheap one available to you (better than any price listed above) this seems like an obvious pass.
very nice find OP have some heat!
Excellent price for a quality motherboard. Well done OP!
