Haven't been keeping up to date with video cards the last year or 2. I …Haven't been keeping up to date with video cards the last year or 2. I have a msi gtx 970 gaming 4GB card, is this a worthwhile upgrade for £230 or should I go for something abit more meaty, I tend to play 4k/30 or 1080/60fps. Noticed some of the later games have been starting to struggle at 4k without dialing back the settings so want to upgrade.

It's not really worth 'upgrading' to this from a 970, you want to be looking at a 1070 at least to see any real noticeable difference.

A good price? This is an amazing price given the current market. I'm picking one up and if there's something better on black Friday I'll return this!

Sweet price in current market, especially because it's that sexy MSI Gaming X version

Just bought one, lets hope they don't cancel

This or the RX 580, which is better please?

From what i understand they have very similar benchmarks, although this MSI card is a high end 1060 so would probably be better than an average 580.
The 1060 has much lower power consumption and runs cooler, allowing much better over clocking.
Neither are bad but if you had the choice and didn't need crossfire, then id say 1060 is better.

They're as close together as you can get for this price bracket (assuming you can get a 580 for the same). If you want or have a freesync monitor then go amd, if not get this.

Sold out

Heat added, just purchased. Think I may have got the last one as it seems to have now gone?

If you want to play 4K with highest settings (even at 30fps) you really need to splash out on a 1080ti or wait to see what the next gen can do. That’s a lot of money. A vanilla 1080 or vega 64 may play most games at the 30fps ultra at the moment, I don’t think that will last too long.
To play 1080p at ultra and be somewhat sure this will be the case in the next year or so, I’d say you can get anything from a 1070/Vega 56 upward.
All depends on your budget and how long before you get in the same position you are now.
Often for me, “Ultra” doesn’t actually look that much better than “very high” or even “high” whilst in the heat of a game (but it’s still too tempting to push that bit further).
My advice would be to hang on to see if Volta (nvidia) is a big jump. You’ve still got a reasonable card to play with in the meantime.
Also prices are starting to drop back to what they should be, they have been highly inflated recently.

Looks like I missed it

Expired

I nearly pulled the trigger but part of me was thinking - 1060, at late 2017, I kinda think it's worth waiting or paying a bit more, this won't hold up for much longer with AAA titles

Black Friday doesn't exist in the UK. Sure, the marketing teams make a half-arsed attempt at trying to make you think it does, but "look at this amazing Black Friday deal I just got" is something no one ever living in the UK has said.

Given that NVIDIA are pausing the release of anything new, since Pascal is so good you'll be okay.

I mean, they've just launched the 1070 Ti. Pascal is here for another year at least.

And who's buying the 1070ti? No one, because at its current price it has no appeal to anyone.

Volta is coming Feb-Mar 2018, a 1060 will be frowned upon in 6 months time, especially in the eyes of new titles

You sure about that? Even if that is true you won't see one for this price then.

If you need a GPU now this is a solid option for 1080p at a good price.
