Hey lads,
After the bad experience i had pairing the Tomahawk B450 with Ryzen 5 3600 I've decided to give MSI another chance. I manage to find a nice combo with a Tomahawk B450 MAX which supposedly works right out of the box. That's a £15 difference compared to the standard tomahawk bundle I've purchased before. Make sure you chose your chip before checkout.
Cheerio!

It should work flawlessly . Tomahawk B450 it has been always a good choice for 2000 series.
You are going back to MSI after what they pulled with this MAX series????
nice find, great deal, friend got this board 2 days with 3800, working great
Shame it’s from awd it. Terrible company, terrible customer service, and prices rarely competitive.
What was your bad experience with the Tomahawk? I've got a 3700x in my x370 Gaming Pro Carbon (avg.board) and it's working great - better than expected (except for waiting on a new bios for better memory tuning).

Heat added btw - this is a great deal.

I don't follow, wasn't 16MB standard for B450 boards?
I see there are earlier mobos that have the option for bios update for £3. Could be worthwhile because I skipped to the end of a Paul's hardware YouTube vid about earlier boards and summary seemed to be you needed an early risen to use the latest ryzen (to get working bios).

...as opposed to the alternative of them continuing to produce boards with the same name that may or may not be compatible with new processors?

So just abandon older motherboards some of which are barely a year old?

You have a very odd definition of "abandoning". Releasing BIOS updates, even if buggy currently, is not "abandoning" them.

Either way, main point stands - the alternative of them not making clearly labelled compatible motherboards for future buyers makes zero sense.

Most likely. This is what they said. MAX version is more bios future proof.
They did a AMA stream and the results of it were an epic PR disaster.

Can we get a link?

Is it worse than "you guys have phones, right?"

I read it on the 25th of July i think, but it's like its been deleted from the internet (reddit). :<

People were asking when could they expect to get updates to the existing b450 that would actually boot with a 3000 series and if they had to rma if it didn't work, and MSI couldn't say anything concrete in their own AMA. Instead they only thing they could say was buy a MAX series. Contradicting AMD's AM4 ensures compatibility for a number of years.

(p.s I have a 1800x and a 1600x on x370 taichi waiting for the 3950x.)
