It looks so easy, bet there is a good market for someone to do this and re-sell on. Thanks for the link, I am tempted...

I did one on a U100 about a year ago, easy enough and it 'helped' re-sale.

This is one of the first netbooks, but still one of the best. Third party, high-capacity batteries are available at reasonable prices. Easily Hackintoshed. Good all round machine.

Very easy to upgrade, remove a few screws and remove the base, you then have clear access to SIMM slots, wireless card and HDD.

At this price a bargain.

netbooks are not my thing but if you need one this looks excellent for £150 so hot from me:)

I got mine to dual boot Windows XP and Mac OSX Leopard. Works beautifully.

watching youtube be goo on this? word? microsoft ?

Word 2003 runs fine with these. You tube is fine too, I suspect full screen divx's may struggle though.

Only issues I had with these Netbooks was with Acer One SSD (Solid State Drive) version... so slow and stuttlery. With a proper HD (like this one), everythings good.

what the difference between this and U130?

if that actually provided an answer it would have worked, as it is, it doesn't and it didn't - its a fair question, the poster just wants a summary

I quite fancy getting one of these and then ripping some of my dvds to the hard drive and using it as a kind of portable dvd player, without the need to carry my disks around and also an external drive

Would this be up to the job?

Cheers in advance
Scott

It would be illegal to sell a machine with OSX installed on it 3rd party. Apple would sue definitely and win if this was done as business venture. Imagine the support problems as well!

there is no dvd player on the unit and as for using it as an external drive... you can't just plug it in to another computer and expect it to appear as a drive

think i would go for the 130 as its newer and got windows 7 on it!!! and only £13 more

Using a combination of Media Player Classic Home Cinema and CoreAVC Video Decoder these can quite happily play 1080p MKVs

Hoping these will still be around Friday! yeah slim chance, why do these deals come along at the wrong time?! Want to hackintosh one.

Maybe to sell, but to actually do for yourself its just breaking EULA, not illegal as such.

With ease.

I have a question for OSX users.

Do all the netbook's features work? Wifi, webcam, sound jacks etc?

I have the advent badged version of this netbook, had it for about 14 months now and I can 100% recommend it. I have used the bundled Windows XP with no problems and am now dual booting Windows 7 and Snow Leopard with no problems what so ever, Upgraded the ram from 1gb to 1.5gb. Some video can be a little jumpy (Windows) especially if on battery power but this only happens at high bit rates, after upgrading the firmware from MSI got a 'turbo' function which seemed to sort out the video. I love how OS X snow leopard runs. Look for 'snowywind' on google, this release is perfect and comes with all the necessary drivers.

Voted hot.

I first put os x leopard on but encounted a few problems with the trackpad and resolution, wireless worked, sound ports worked, didnt test the webcam. Then came across the snowywind release which is the newer snow leopard os, and had no problems what so ever everything has worked out of the box - sound ports, vga port, webcam, wireless etc

Can the SIMM slot be upgraded to add mobile internet to this model? So few options around of netbooks with internal Sim slots.

Dependent upon on how your ripping the DVDs (i.e. full rip, etc) then yes you can use the netbook without any problems - I know a lot of people that do this, especially guys that go offshore or are on long haul flights.

I think it will be possible (bear in mind the warranty will be invalidated by this work) but you need to check out the MSI Wind User Community & Forum (links by myself are already posted), as I'm sure it's listed over there for this hardware hack.

Both are BUT the MSI Wind is a lot easier to upgrade the internal components i.e. memory, wireless card and hard drive - the Dell Mini 10v is a bit of a pain to take apart, as you literally need to take it to pieces.

In addition to that I think you can get cashback for eBay (via Quidco/TopCashBack) but you won't be able to via Dell UK Outlet (they are a separate entity from Dell UK).

160Gb can hold quite a few dvd rips.

As Scotty Boy says. Both are easily Hackintoshed, I would say the Dell is marginally easier. However the MSI is just SO much easier to upgrade. Upgrading the Dell is a real PITA.

I have both and both have been OSX'd. (Multi boot) I prefer the MSI.

The MSI lacks wireless "N" which I don't consider a loss (If you need it the card can be easily and cheaply replaced), but does include Bluetooth (which can be added to the Dell with a $2 nano dongle for DealExtreme.)

Both are decent Netbooks.

Thanks for the info. I have gone for a black Wind. I prefer the mac os now after many years on windows. I have a white macbook but its an expensive item to get pinched/drop/leave somewhere
Also have a nice 27inch imac, nice

It only costs £21 to double the memory with a 1GB stick from crucial. The back of the netbook is easy to remove, though you have the break the warranty sticker to access one of the screws.

Overclocking is a breeze. The ability to overclock is an option that needs to be enabled in the BIOS - just select whether to overclock by 15% or 24%. The Fn+F10 switches on the "turbo" mode when you are running on the mains (not battery).

Almost 2Ghz processor speed with 2GB RAM for just over £170 - what more do you want?

Great machine.
