I initially mis-read the tile and thought it was going to be a "Wind Up" netbook .....

Bought one 3 weeks ago, great little netbook and seems very solid and comes with 6 cell battery.

£149.99 for a brand new (not refurbed) on Argos website, OOS for home delivery but might be stock in some stores.

We bought one last week, very easy to upgrade to 2gb for £10.79

Very useful advice for a lot of people. Thanks for posting it.

These MSI Netbooks can be Hackintoshed if anyone is interested.

But beware, Argos/eBay outlet is run by a bunch of Donkies in my experience.

It only has 1 slot, so not worth taking 1GB stick out to put another 1GB in

No, it's got 1gb in already and it'll only take up to 2gb in total.

There's a slot available to put the new 1gb in, so no need to remove anything.

We did this the other night (_;)

Be careful what you advise. The 1GB that is already in the machine is soldered in. You only need to buy a 1GB stick. If you put a 2GB stick in with the existing 1GB IT WILL NOT WORK at all, it won't even boot.

Got one of these amazing bit of kit ... HOT from me

Apologies for that, even better as you don't have to waste a stick

Ive typing this on an Ebay refurb laptop - and had a great experience with them.
£100 cheaper laptop and it's in perfect condition.

Can those slagging it off say why? Have you had a problem and they've been rubbish?

Sweet deal too...

I have bought around a dozen items from Argos/Ebay without a problem. They seem to sell an awful lot of items so i guess the odd bad experience is inevitable for some.

Ive only had one experience and it was BAD. Thye senbt a lower spec laptop to the one I had bought, then wouldnt refuind/replace till I sent it back. Then didnt refund it for over a month after it was returned till I gave them stinking feedback.

I came across that already, it's well old and aimed at u100's etc. There is a question in there somewhere from someone asking if it will work with the u135 but there was no reply.

No idea if these issues have been fixed since 2008 when it was posted....

NOT WORKING

- WiFi (see below!)
- Headphone port
- Mic port
- Internal mic
- Hibernate - native macs hibernate using EFI signals, which doesn't work on 'hackintoshes'. Still pursuing a fix for this!

I bought twice from them and both times the item was knackered.

I have had 5 out of mine so far with screen on about 50% brightness and wifi on all that time. Bare in mind the battery may need a bit of conditioning to start with.

Don't forget Quidco; (40% of ebay's revenue goes to you).

I bought one from Argos/ebay outlet last week for £149.99.It booted fine, but everytime I tried to install a programme,it would freeze. The only way I could get out of it was to remove the battery. Tried a reinstall twice, same result.Put in a return or exchange request and got a message to send it back to their agents D & J Henry in Coventry for investigation. It was picked up by DHL last Wednesday and still waiting to hear what they intend doing. Not very happy.

So would i if.............there were any available near me. None available upto 100 miles away and then i stopped looking

The whole Argos are a bunch of monkeys (not only their ebay outlet). I got one of them from a store and the battery turned out to be 3 cell only lasting just more than 3 hours. Had a job getting a refund as they claim it was not faulty!!!

Original Poster

Not trying to defend Argos but there Ebay store does have a seller rating of over half a million. I can only go on my experience with them and it has been fine.

managed to reserve last one at St Albans ,Hope it's not faulty

My U130 with a 6 cell battery gets about 5 hours on Windows so that sounds about spot on.I also bought it from Argos Ebay and it looked brand new, delivery time was excellent aswell!

I picked up the U135DX instore last Friday. It's an amazing little machine - especially since I found out how to speed it up in the bios menu!
It's now home to my retro collection - runs PSone games no problem. Also plays 720p mkvs using XBMC. Highly recommended little netbook!

I think this would make a very good jolicloud machine.
Also, should play 720p fine (as previously mentioned)

Is anyone else having issues with the wifi? It seems to time out now and again on the internet, even though the signal is good? Ethernet works fine. and my other wireless laptop is fine.

Brought one a few days ago, I've got around 6-6.5 hours so far, with 50% brightness, set in minimum power management, with wifi on.

Price of £150 at Argos stores is only valid 'til today, so already expired for store pick up unless you're lucky and they let you have it at the reserved price tomorrow.

Or the Toshiba NB250 -107 for £179 250gb and w7 starter.

jtowmson, not sure if this applies to your machine, but have you uninstalled or modified any of the software progs (ie. crapware) that came with the machine? I had a similar problem with an HP laptop, when I tried to stop some of the software installing at start up. The problem resolved itself when I let the software update itself and have just left it on there now.

As for Argos Outlet, I have purchased a 'refurb' netbook and camera and both were as new and have been fine. I changed my mind on a laptop, had it picked up, and was refunded fairly promptly. And I had one netbook that had to go back as it had a battery charging fault (it also had a big scratch on the lid and clearly looked as if it had been used). My experience with DandJ Henry, who deal with the computer side of things is that they are very helpful and contactable. These items are returns, so I guess there are going to be some that dont make the grade, but at least there is no return postage as a courier picks up.
This netbook seems a good deal. Not buying myself as I dont need another one!

Very good price - So tempted but dont need one really.

u100 can be "modified"
the u135 currently cannot
