Not sure what to say. Very cheap. Read/Write speeds are terrible though. I mean it's about 160KB/s write. When era was this made.

well i am not a computer gadget expert.does this mean it is a bad product?it sounds very cheap.Thanks for the comment anyway.

i`ve checked the specs again it seems much faster than what you say "Read High Speed over 4.3Mbps, write High Speed over 1.3Mbps"

It's a cheap option aand it does the job.

they used to have these in poundland might still do - the speed on the one I've got has been comaprable to a decent pendrive

Original Poster

then why is it still cold?:(

maybe good for an emergency but at today's speed you are aiming somewhere at 4mb/s+

Darn, lost a whole post!

4.3Mbps == 4.3 Mega bits per second == 4.3 / 8 (there are 8 bits in a byte) ~= 0.540 Mega Bytes per second ~= 1000x 0.540 KB/s ~= 540 KB/s == 540 KiloBytes per second.

small 'b' == bits
big 'B' == bytes

Usually network speeds are measured in Mbps and data transfer (say from one hard-disk to another) is measured in MB/s. Pretty much marketing hype, just like when a device says it *supports* USB2.0, but in actuality it's never reach those speeds.

This will be good for emergencies, but I wouldn't use it to transfer large amounts of data. To put this into perspective, txt files are generally 1-3 KB's.

The use of lower-case b to signify bits isn't universal, and I assume the 4.3M/1.3M figure is actually megabytes per second. That probably refers to the slowest type of memory card that it works with (some old Sony Memory Stick maybe?).

I have a card reader that looks exactly like this, bought from Poundland a year or two ago. It's exactly the same design, so I assume the insides are similar or identical. I just timed reading 2GB from a generic/unbranded 2GB MicroSD card and got 17.59MB/sec. So basically, any bottleneck/limit is probably the memory card speed rather than the reader.

My card reader seems to support SDXC cards too by the way.

Bought one of these in poundland some time ago, had compatability issues with works laptop, may have just been that unit.

You can pick any one. They are all $0.99 or about 62p. You will end up with a similar, if not better product, given they are all churned out very cheaply from China.

If it has to be a UK seller, there is a wide choice on ebay UK at 99p, so this price on Amazon is nothing special at all.

It wasn't the same model, but both a friend and I had an ultra-cheap card reader corrupt our cards. I lost a hour's worth of footage (thankfully, reshootable), but my friend wasn't so lucky, and lost some priceless footage. I personally wouldn't trust something so inexpensive with my data. Just a warning.

I got one of these in Poundland a while ago and only recently started using it regularly. I didn't find it particularly slow for the couple gig i was last transferring but then i dont think i've ever seen any usb flash memory related item on this site that people havent accused of being slow!

BTW. I only just realised this must be USB 1.1, given those appalling speeds. This would make any memory card perform as if it were class 1. Get a nice USB 2.0 one from eBay for a pound or a buck.

All-in-one? No xd.

Would have been handy if it supported Compact Flash. Shame :-(

For 95p and it supports the HC classes of cards its definitely worth a punt.

Thanks, ordered

Ordered it, cheers..
Will come in handy for basic data transfers etc..

I Too bought one similar to this and it corrupted my card too,cheap isnt always the way to go with card readers.

Ordered one, as said before nust be worth a punt at 95p including pp

I got one of these in pound shop years ago it broke in two minutes

Expired, £1.99 now
