Probably hoping Dad's to be then have to pay out to get the first class ticket too.
Forget these cynical, basically cost-free marketing ploys - re-nationalise UK railways.
Discrimination.
"how do we get around a cramped, overcrowded train; so busy that heavily pregnant women can't get anywhere near a seat?"

a totally empty PR attempt
Unbelievable! What about the dads to be?

Yes of course everyone pays 1st class prices for 2nd class service. can't imagine why your suggestion isn't being followed...

I would however vastly improve the department that oversees rail contracts and compliance and service delivered, since they have some massive defficiencies currently...

I know greater Anglia do this, you don't even need a season ticket, they just give you a letter to take with you so you use with any normal 2nd class ticket
First class on SWT comprises of different colour seats and a plug to charge your phone. Nothing else whatsoever. A complete con.
mums to be should pay child fare as well
This has been going for years, most train operators do it. I had it on gwr 11 years ago.

I thought children under a certain age were free on trains?
Sexist. What about dads to be?
Why does a women need an upgrade.
As long as she has a seat, this is enough.

Why are the women not up in arms complaining for equality?
Cold due to lack of equality
It's something good for pregnant women and I suppose this might allow a few non-pregnant people to remain in their seats in the standard class carriage. A potential issue is when first class is full though.

Totally this. They want equality, yet expect to be treated in a preferential method at the expense of other passengers.

What about elderly people who probably struggle to stand far more than a fit healthy woman?
